Ernest In Love

Can anyone tell me some more about this musical. All I know is that it exists, and I sort of think the idea is strange, so I'm wondering how was it? Score? Book? Any information would be appreciated.
"We don't value the lily less for not being made of flint and built to last. Life's bounty is in it's flow, later is too late. Where is the song when it's been sung, the dance when it's been danced? It's only we humans who want to own the future too." - Tom Stoppard, Shipwreck

re: Ernest In Love

I think what you are referring to is a musicalization of The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde. It began life as a television play in 1957, and later opened as an Off Broadway musical in 1960. It got very good reviews from the daily papers, but I don't think it ran very long. The next night another new musical opened and it got much poorer reviews from the daily papers. It was also an adaptation of a play, Les Romantiques by Rostand, and it was not expected to have a successful run. But it held on, it was called, The Fantastics.

I know that it is a musicilization of Importance of Being Earnest, which is one of my favorite plays. Has anyone here seen it? Does it work as a musical?

The cast recording is available on DRG Records.

I love the play, but cannot make it through the cd. I find the score bland, at best.
