Hawke has apparently dropped out of the Jessica Lange GLASS MENAGERIE revival and is set to star in a revival of Rabe's HURLYBURLY off-Broadway for the New Group beginning in January.

Any idea who will replace him in Menagerie, Margo?
Good. Not that I wouldn't like to see Hawke in MENAGERIE, but I think he's better suited for the other.
Both characters are amazing, he's a very happy man.
And I actually think he was perfect for Tom and he'll stretch more playing Eddie.
I'm sure they'll find someone great to replace him. Raul, maybe?

I don't know what in the world's going on with that production -- it seems to be falling apart entirely. Hawke was originally announced to play the Gentleman Caller opposite Lange and Robert Sean Leonard's Tom (Natalie Portman was said to be "in talks" to play Laura). Then just two or three weeks ago, it was announced that Leonard was out of the production entirely (no explanation given), and that Hawke would play Tom. Now Hawke's out and doing HURLYBURLY. No word on Portman, but considering everything else, I wouldn't be surprised if she drops out, too (since she was never officially in to begin with).
All that seems to be official is that Lange will star, David Leveaux will direct and it will begin previews Feb. 12, 2005, with a March 3, 2005 opening date.

Well, I hope they get things worked out and that it's a good production - that's one of the things I'd REALLY like to see when we're there in April.
I was looking forward to this production so much when it was first announced w/ Lange, Leonard, Hawke, and (possibly) Portman. I'm guessing that Leonard dropped out because of his Fox show, House (which looks ridiculous...and it royally pisses me off that he's not doing a Broadway show to be in some silly medical drama on Fox). And now Broadway.com and Playbill are announcing that Sarah Paulson is in talks to play Laura. Who knows??? It's starting to look like the whole thing is going to hell in a hand-basket. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Ethan Hawke (Henry IV, "Reality Bites") will star in a cast alongside fellow stage and screen stars including Bobby Cannavale (F*CKing A, "Six Feet Under"), Josh Hamilton (Proof, "With Honors") and Catherine Kellner (The Long Christmas Ride Home, "200 Cigarettes").

i laughed through his Hamlet. It was Shakespearean apostasy.
EDIT: did anyone see Henry IV? Any opinions on his work there?
I wish I'd seen Sally Field in D.C.

I saw the original in its pre-Broadway tryout in Chicago. The cast: William Hurt, Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel, Sigourney Weaver, Jerry Stiller, Judith Ivey and Cynthia Nixon!
I was in the first row of the tiny Goodman Studio Theatre, literally close enough to touch the actors - including being about three feet away from Sigourney when she took her top off.

Has anyone else noticed Ethan's sickly looking face, sunken cheekbones, eye sockets, is he okay??????????????
