I personally LOVE Lang. I got in and am deferring admissions while I spend a year at AMDA...but I shall answer your questions.
1. There isn't actually a theatre major. There's a major in The Arts with a concentration in theatre. You can also concentrate in whatever else you want, within or outside of thea arts because while there are many many class offerings, the major only requires about 5 courses. There's is no audition because it's a REALLY liberal arts program. You'll get the training, but you'll also get more so theatre studies stuff. If you want conservatory, Lang's NOT the place. And they do have awesome student theatre and faculty shows that you can get credit for.
2. Well, when I went for accepted students day, I saw people having sex in the bathroom. and this wasn't in the dorm. It's a school full of hippies. But intelligent hippies. So like, take a puff of reefer and realize the cure for AIDS slash find a way to solve world hunger, hippies. Offbeat is a good way to describe them. They do what they want and make it work.
3. Well, I'm a lesbian. So I didn't look. But it seemed pretty balanced to me.
4. They're pretty decent dorms. But no one lives in them after sophmore year. It's off to Brooklyn. But like, think about it, living in Brooklyn for a year is probably the same amount if not a little less than living in a dorm and paying room and board for a year.
5. It doesn't compare to Pace or Marymount. Those are strictly acting programs. They train actors. Lang trains thinkers who act (which in my opinion is SO MUCH COOLER! you get to learn to make theatre your own!!).
If you have questions please(!!!) PM me. Lang and me are totes amigos. We get along really really well
