Anyone else think this is a great idea?
Eva is one of my favorite female vocalists of all-time.

I love Eva Cassidy's voice. There is just something about it.
How did you guys hear about her?
Michelle Kwan is actually the reason why I even know who she is. Kwan used Eva's "Fields of Gold" as her exhibition in the 2001-2002 season and it is one of her best programs. After I heard the song for the first time, I was just mesmerized with Eva's voice.

Posted: 1/28/05 at 9:22amWhat is this show going to be exactly? The thing that is confusing is Eva didn't write any of her own music. Her genius lies in the way she could take a familiar tune and make it sound like you never heard it before. So will the performers do exact replications of her arrangements and stylizing (Which would be odd) or are they just going to sing songs she sang in their own way in which case that would really have nothing to do with her. As a huge Eva Cassidy fan, I wouldn't really want to see either.

Posted: 1/28/05 at 10:00amBradley I would tend to agree with you. She was so magnetic because she knew how to make a song so powerful and her own, but in a way you never thought. I remember when I heard time after time and it was like a blackout...I was so captivated I think I had a blank espression with like mouth open and all..haha.Her talent was just beyond what I have ever heard. Anyone ever have the pleasure of seeing her live??

Yeah, Steph won't be there, but the lineup is great...
And Bradley, I guess you're not that big of a fan if you don't have any faith in this amazing tribute concert, and can't accept the fact that it's for a wonderful cause. You'll have to come to find out exactly what it's like, but all the participants must truly respect her in order to be taking part in it, so I have no doubt it'll be great...

Not even Eva sang a song the same way twice.
Her arrangements were amazing and the performers will be singing to her arrangments..
The fact is its amazing music for an amazing cause.. Eva fans will have a great time and will NOT be dissapointed

"I guess you're not that big of a fan if you don't have any faith in this amazing tribute concert"
ummmm....well, yeah, I am a big fan and I am not sure what that has to do with having faith in "this amazing tribute concert". My point is her brilliance is centered in the way she inhabits a song. She enters a soul of a song like nobody I have ever heard and, while there, would twist and turn and bend in her vocals which somehow managed to completely mirror her own soul and show us a heartbreaking glimpse of the human spirit which we never quite heard in the same way before. So it isn't really about her arrangements. I wasn't aware it was for a great cause and that's...great, but it just seems peculiar to me to just copy the specific notes of the specific riffs of her songs because it misses the point of her extraordinary gift which was how she was so connected to "it all" that those were the notes that appeared. And if you don't copy the notes you're really just doing your own version of "Stormy Monday". But, ya know...great..knock yourselves out..raise some money and sing some songs. No big deal. Just doesn't quite make sense to me.

Eva was such a talent.
Her version of "Penny to my Name" is just perfect.
