Was high watching the movie last night and thought it would/should be a cute musical.
Any fans of the film?

Big fan here. I've been saying it would be a great choice to musicalize for years!
So, yes, please.

It doesn't. God forbid!
But this one actually should be musicalized. It has to do with the story, structure, characters, and subject. It lends itself to being staged with songs.
It probably won't be, because it's not a huge popular title that everyone knows. I'm sick of movies that get the musical treatment simply because they're popular mega-hits with the 18-35 crowd. And usually that's the only reason it gets a green light for production.

The thing about Eve's Bayou is that it could potentially have an incredible cast, from people like Audra McDonald, Tonya Pinkins, Nikki James, LaChanze, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Taye Diggs ... all in the same show, playing rich (in more ways than one) characters.
The music would cover several key styles: bayou/cajun folk, gospel/blues, and 60s (ala Hairspray).
I really wish some creative team would jump on this. My choice to direct would be George C. Wolfe. And I'll bet Ahrens and Flaherty could nail these varied music styles and mesh them together into a single musical play.
