Posted: 10/12/04 at 9:17pmI went with a date in 1968 I think. Sat in the balcony @ the Shubert. Do not remember much about it other than a ticket went for $ 5

Posted: 10/12/04 at 9:34pmI know this sounds stupid, but how does one go to the Tonys? Do they sell tickets to the public? Sorry, I just have no idea about it. But I would love to go!

My uncle is a stock broker in the city. His company worked in the WTC, and everybody was given ticket packages for their families, or to sell to clients.
He got 2 tickets to the Tony Awards, but gave them to me. Yeah 2001-2002----Lots of fun. Great seats!

Yeah I have gone for the past five years! It is a great time and there is always such a wonderful energy in Radio City. I have to say, the best part is the after party. All the stars and some others fill the "ice skating rink" in Rockefeller Plaza...though at this point it is a restaurant...and there is food and dancing and general hoopla! If you can ever make it to the Tony’s...by purchasing tickets or getting them through connections, GO! I promise that you will have a wonderful night of entertainment and ambiance!

Posted: 10/12/04 at 10:06pmElphie, tickets do go on sale to the general public each year. They are pretty pricey -- around $250.00 for balcony if I remember correctly. (Guys, correct me if that's wrong.) If you're checking the Broadway web sites when it gets close to June, you'll definitely see something about it.

Kate,
Does purchasing a ticket for the Tony show automatically get you invited to the after show party?
A click for life.

Posted: 10/12/04 at 10:34pmIsn't there another level of pricing, around $150? Also orchestra seats aren't sold to the public - mostly reserved for actors/actresses or anyone involved in the show(s).

Posted: 10/12/04 at 10:37pmI went this past year and it was the best experience! My date and I had seats in the first mezzanine and they had a great view! I really hope I can pull the cash together again this year! Grrr.....college!

I have sat in the orchestra...you do not have to be involved in the show to sit there...you just have to have connections!

Posted: 10/12/04 at 11:02pmIt was cool, but it's kinda like being in Times Square when the ball drops, if you get my drift.

Posted: 10/12/04 at 11:06pmI went to the 2003 and 2004 Tonys. Both times I sat in the center of the First Mezz and it was fantastic. I think it's worth going to just for the "during the commerical" moments.
#17re: Ever attended the Tonys?
Posted: 10/12/04 at 11:28pmooh, what happens during the commercials?

This past year, Hugh Jackman would come out and talk to the audience. I remember he was like "We have 6 minutes before the show starts again, what do you wanna do?" someone yelled sing I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME from TBFO....and he did it!
Also, they put up old commercials for Broadway shows.

Posted: 10/12/04 at 11:47pmI went in 2003 on a TOTAL fluke! My friend's dad used to work at Radio City so they had tickets for their family and no extra. I came into town LITERALLY overnight (I was registering at school the next morning) and was sleeping in their apartment. An hour before my train arrived, someone her dad worked with called and offered them an extra ticket and I got to go! I didn't have anything to wear except a pair of black pinstrip pants! I borrowed one of her sweaters and some shoes that didnt fit and just tried to make my hair and makeup really fancy! When we got there, we realized that we weren't sitting together, so I was kinda bummed...until it turned out my seat was in the FRONT ROW! I was six seats away from Chita Rivera and Antonio Banderas was right behind her and all the musical people were all in the general area. It was ridiculous. If you watch the awards, I'm on TV anytime someone wins and goes up the stairs on the stage right side -- I'm wearing a light blue sweater and just look very overheated!!!

I know it's a little overrated to some, but I think that Tony night is one of my favorite nights of the year. I love getting all dressed up and seeing everyone and all the schomoozing and everything. I went to the last 2 Tonys, and I had a blast.
And good news (sort of)...I only paid $125 (better than $250)for my ticket and they were front row first mezz. You just have to be persistent. :)
"Dreams, I've lived within my dreams now it seems I've awakened and they're real, pinch and feel. If one day I walk upon this stage from these wings and play underneath this dome, and if I sing with all my heart, I'll be home"
