Posted: 5/2/05 at 7:04pmI was just thrilled when Urinetown came to San Francisco, so I didn't read the press. Low and behold...there was Tom Hewitt! Ah, a very nice surprise indeed.

Posted: 5/3/05 at 6:02amThe best example of this was during the obc of Chicago they made a surprise announcement before the curtain went up saying "at this performance, the role of Roxie will be played by LIZA MINNELLI." I can imagine how crazy the audience went at this news, and what I wouldn't give to have been there.

Posted: 5/3/05 at 11:39amI saw the tour of Cinderella a few years ago, and this was before I totally dove into knowing anything I can about Broadway... and when I get there, everyone's talking about Eartha Kitt as the Godmother. I was like "omfgEarthaKittisinthis?"

oh! I have another story.... I don't why I always forget who I've seen. Anyway, last year I saw Patrick Swayze in the Chicago tour in San Diego. We were like, "Great!".
However, after the 1st act, we were like ..."He sucks!"
His voice was not strong and a little pitchy.
*Actually, this make me want to start another thread titled ... EVER GO SEE A SHOW, OPEN THE PLAYBILL... THEN 'SHI*T' SOMEONE TERRIBLE!!!!

My first time in NY, I was eleven, and my mom took me to see Once Upon a Mattress. My goal on the trip was to see a famous person, so Mom neglected to tell me who was starring in the show--so Princess Winnifred makes her entrance, all moat-scummy and such, and BAM SARAH JESSICA PARKER!!!!!!!! I was such a happy little child.

To a lesser extent,
Larry Brygman (sp.) in Proof..."hey it's the chief from Die Hard 3"
Kevin Anderson in Brklyn ...kinda "oh yeah..."
I really marked out however when I realized Mary Louise Parker's husband in Reckless was the cadddy from Caddyshack!

Posted: 5/6/05 at 10:49amI was surprised and excited that Brooks Ashmanskas was in The Producers...but then a little thrown off because his character was so different from his part in Songs for A New World.

Posted: 5/6/05 at 11:35amwhen i was in high school many moons ago, i went to see how to succeed with matthew broderick. i knew he was in the show, but it happend to be one of sarah jessica parkers first shows...it was a nice surprise. sadly, i didnt get to meet them at the stage door, but to see a real couple on stage together is so nice...it brought realism to the show and characters.

I remember another!
I saw the tour of Annie.
And who was in the role of Miss Hanigan?
Sally Struthers!
I was too young to remember her in All In The Family...but I remembered her face from the ads on T.V. for children in third world countries without food, shelter or clothes. She would stand there in all her weight(!) with a bunch of skinny, sickly children cluthing her big waist and plea to the camara, "These children are hungry!"

Never happened, but I went to see the Crucible when it was on Broadway.
I opened the playbill, and I was all, "WOAH, BETSY HOGG!" Betsy and I went to camp together.
