I've already posted on here...but I need to update:
I recently just ended "Urinetown" with my high school and I played Hope Cladwell. At the beginning of "I See a River," it's supposed to be kind gospel-ish....and I didn't think the stuff Jennifer Laura Thompson did on the CD was enough.....so I added a bunch of riffs and runs...and the greatest was when someone started whistling while I was singing....like those kind of whistles when you're like "daaaaaaaang"....it was a pretty good feeling. That and everyone coming up to me and saying that they never thought I could sing like that and only sang "opera stuff."
It was pretty neat. Then, at my "Miss Saigon" audition (at a very professional theater that I had never been to in my life) I belted the end of "I'm Not Afraid of Anything" from SFANW. I had two contrasting songs prepared, but they decided they only wanted to hear the belting one since there wasn't time. I sang and the director and music director sat there and said, "wow. that was really great. um, can you sing your other song?" Then I nailed "How Could I Ever Know?" from the Secret Garden. It was a pretty amazing feeling :)
