I watched a production of Evita. I was very familiar with the musical. My friend who came with me found it hard to understand. She said she didn't know what was happening and needed a book. The show lacked exposition.I was agreed with her that it could be hard to follow, but always felt that Evita was a lot of exposition and little narrative. Unless you know the story of Eva, you sometimes don't know what is happening or why.

Who was right, is Evita mainly expository or narration?

I saw Evita for the first time at a pretty young age. I went in without any knowledge of Eva Peron or even the show itself. I had no problem following the story. In fact I was on the edge of my seat the whole show. I don't think any show ever drew me in like Evita. From the minute that curtain went up, I got lost in the story unfolding before me. It's really not that hard to follow. I consider it a neatly structured show that gives not only a biographical sketch of Eva Peron, but of the politics and society of the time.

^ I was going to say exactly what Bwayphreak said. I knew nothing, but was enthralled. However, this was the recent Revival, so I had to listen to the CD a few times to learn every little detail. It is now one of my fav shows! Saw it 3x.
