The theater that I work for in Arizona is presenting An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin next April and I'm currently working on the press release for the show. I would like to supplement the release with review quotes from the original Broadway production of Evita but I'm having trouble finding anything online. Does anyone have any helpful advice or links they can point me in the right direction of. Any help would be great, thanks!

well, I'm not sure how helpful the NY Times review would be, unless you can put a positive spin on "...Patti LuPone's leering tongue, her firmly set jaw, and the ice water that plainly runs through her veins. (Miss LuPone sings the role well, and moves with a rattlesnake vitality.)"

but here is the link anyway:

this article I like better. also from the NY Times, from the December 1979. although I'm not sure what you can really pull from here either; it's just an interesting read.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I did not know that about the Times review, thanks for the review though. Does anyone know of any great reviews for Patti and Mandy in Evita?

"LuPone is incendiary as Eva..."
T.E. Kalem, Time Magazine

A quote that loses a little of it's punch when presented in it's entirety:
"LuPone is incendiary as Eva, but she seems to burn with the borrowed fuel of the legend rather than internal charismatic combustion."

Ah, and here's the rub.

Evita reviews were generally so scathing that Hal Prince purportedly had them posted in the theatre all the years of its Broadway run.
