I ran a search, but I couldn't find much (however, I'm not very good with search...)
Anyhoo, which Evita recording is the most complete (other than the movie soundtrack)?
I would think it'd be 'Evita: Premiere American Recording'
Depends on what you mean by complete.
The White album (Julie Covington concept) contains some different material than the London or Broadway recordings ("The Lady's Got Potential", and a different ending.)
The Patti LuPone version is more complete than the Elaine Paige London version, which I believe was just selections and only released on one CD. There may be a complete Elaine Paige recording, but I don't have it.
The Florence Lacey CD is highlights as well.

Is the OBC LuPone recording two discs? Because when I saw the tour they were selling a one-disc OBC CD, I wanted one that is more complete.
Yes, the Patti version is two discs. They may have released a highlights disc, so make sure you get the full two disc version.
It's my favorite, although all of the recordings are interesting.
But the Patti one isn't titled the Original Broadway Cast, is it?
The two-disc one I have of hers is just called the Premiere American Recording.

Priest, I just ran it through Google, it says yours is the Original LA Cast.
Thanks Priest and VC, I'll keep that in mind when I head to the music store this week
Yes, Priest, it's billed as the "American Premiere Recording," whatever that means. But it's the Original Broadway Cast, regardless of the label.
Weber seems to use that label a lot, it's what the Glenn Close SUNSET BOULEVARD is billed as too. (Although SUNSET spent a long time in LA before Broadway, and I think the recording was done there, prior to its Broadway arrival).
I guess Webber thinks it sounds more high-class? Or something.

Webber for some reason is against creating an Original Broadway Cast recording. He didn't go out of his way to record the Broadway cast of "Phantom of the Opera" or "Aspects of Love" or "Starlight Express"
Gotham, both PHANTOM and ASPECTS OF LOVE had the same leads on Broadway as they did in London, so there was basically no need for new recordings.
Why they didn't record the Broadway STARLIGHT EXPRESS remains a mystery to me.

And just to clarify, the Lupone Evita was only available as a two disc set of the complete original score for years -- they decided to release a highlights disc of it about two years ago.
Margo, do you know what the deal is with the Elaine Paige recording?
I know that it was never released in its entirety on vinyl here in the U.S., it was only a highlights version. And the CD release of the London Cast was that same highlights version.
But do you know if it exists as a full recording?
I am 99% sure that there is no full Elaine Paige recording (if there is it is bootlegged). I do have the London Cast, which are just the highlights, and she is amazing. I do not believe it was ever released here, but you can get through Footlight, Dress Circle or Amazon.uk.
Thats weird... I know there is a two disk of Patti, but why not Elaine?
At the time of the London production, I believe the "white" (Julie Covington/Colm Wilkinson) recording was not that old. It most likely was a money issue, not a performance one.

Exactly--I think they knew pretty soonthat the show WOULD go to the US and they'd record it there.
BTW the US Evita is called Premiere US cast or whatever for the same reason Sunset was--both had long extended runs in LA first.
I actually lately have listened to the movie recoridng more than the others--something I initially would have NEVER thought I'd do (originally Madonna didn't bug me much but Banderas did--I admit though I like the new orchestrations which are often based more on the original concept album)
