#1"Evita" Tour Question - Children's Choir?
Posted: 9/22/13 at 3:43am
Hi! For those who have seen the current tour of "Evita", are they casting a children's choir in every city as opposed to hiring one set for all the tour stops? I was looking at the Cast page on the "Evita" website and didn't see any kids, so I was wondering.
Thanks!

#2"Evita" Tour Question - Children's Choir?
Posted: 9/22/13 at 8:22amThat's a charming idea. I'm trying to visualize, though, how it could be implemented. How would the director & musical director identify, audition, and rehearse a new children's choir in each city, sometimes one a week, and integrate a professional-level children's choir in the show each stop of the way? Although it seems like a delightful idea, I wonder if that would be logistically possible, and how the show could be performed if something didn't work out in one city?

TBF, they do it with "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and a couple of other shows. It's not that difficult. They send advance music to the school so they can prepare. Then when the tour arrives, they polish up with the music director.
Page two of this article outlines the process.

I'm somewhat happy to hear they cut the children's choir. "Santa Evita" is just so hard to listen to. I love idea...but ugh...it is so boring.

My favorite moment of the revival was when the child finished her verse, Eva knelt down, took her hands and the ensemble gently joined in and crescendoed. This was the only part of the show that moved me--in hindsight, it was the only part of the show that made feel anything.
Womp.
