Ewan McGregor in Talks to Star in London Guys and Dolls

Donmar Warehouse boss Michael Grandage doesn’t mess around. If he says that it’s time for another London Guys and Dolls (following the immensely successful Richard Eyre production at the National — so good that nobody has dared to touch it in Theatreland since), then he’s going to get a headline-making cast.

Talks are nearing conclusion for Ewan McGregor to play Sky Masterson, with an announcement expected imminently.

He doesn't seem like that type? He does to me...did you watch "Down with Love"..? Very retro and suave.

Funny they should be thinking of Ewan for Sky Masterson. I was just thinking the other day (after watching him in Down With Love) that if the long talked about movie remake ever gets off the ground that Ewan would make a good Nathan Detroit. I thought Vince Vaughn (don't know if he can sing) might make a good Sky. I couldn't for the life of me decide who I would want to see cast in the female leads. But Jennifer Tilly as Adelade is an interesting choice.

Tilly as Adelaide is brilliant. But, to me, anyone who plays Adelaide is living in the IMMENSE shadow of Vivian Blaine. Kind of like anyone playing Audrey, sorry, no matter how wonderful you are, that role belongs to Ellen Greene. As for Ewan, curtainup beat me to it. Not Sky, he needs to be Nathan. Someone a little more intrinsically cool needs to Sky. As much as I loved Down With Love, Exan's scenes with David HydE Pierce came across VEEERRY homoerotic. And considering that he was supposed to be the consummate ladies man, I think they missed the mark.

I gotta disagree with ya, B.B. Wolf, I think Ewan would be faboo as Sky. The whole reason that those scenes between McGregor and Hyde Pierce were so homoerotic is because they were spoofing that type of scene between Rock Hudson and Tony Randall (the suave, straight acting gay and the neurotic, fey hetero). I also wholeheartedly agree that Tilly would be genius as Miss Adelaide. But can she sing it? No ideas for Sarah or Nathan at the moment.
