So I am very tired I am just going to give a quick overview.
Aida: She had an amazing lower register...had such emotion and power...yet everytime she would go for the ending powerful notes (Dance of the Robe, The Gods Love Nubia, Easy as Life) it lacked power. It was missing something. It was on key and everything but it was just missing the chill-factor I really wanted out of her.
Amneris: Completely stole the show away. Her comedic timing was amazing, voice was stunning...She did an absolutely wonderful job. I would go deeper into it but there were not flaws in her performace.
Radames: He was Okay. Radames is a hard part to play I think. I am torn on him. Good voice...but missing something.
Other notables:
Mereb: Funny, great voice, sometimes over-the-top but good comedic relief in the beginning scenes.
Nehebka: So, I am not sure if she was sick but she sounded like Macy Gray....dieing. She cracked in The Gods Love Nubia and it was just a mess. She sounded sick, so I think that it was that...hopefully it was...
Now I know I left other characters out but if they are not included they were OK. Nothing special.
Ensemble: Men were much better than the females. The Gods Love Nubia was DISSAPOINTING. They had no power, were very quite...overall that was their worst song. Loved Fortune Favors the Brave and Dance of the Robe. Strongest Suit was good but the woman lacked the mens vocal power.
Overall good casting aside from a few people and overall a very good performance. I would recommend it for anyting in the area. Goodnight
(I apologize now if there are spelling errors)
Thanks. I'm so disappointed to hear from everyone that Radames isn't very good - it IS a difficult part to play, but people like Will Chase really made him more human. I suppose, with all the Gaston analogies, it means he never drops the shallow bravado from Fortune Favors the Brave nor becomes softer and more sensitive, which is too bad.
It also kills me that Gods Love Nubia was disappointing - it's one of my favorite moments in the show and it always gives me chills. What was wrong with it, for you?
Having Radames not display that change just kills the show. That is the pivotal point. Otherwise, what's she got to fall in love with? ugh. Sad.
The Gods Love Nubia...the best song in Aida in my opinion. This is not only where Aida gets to shine (aside from Dance of the Robe), but also the cast gets to finally show their chops and characters.
What is huge lackluster borefest it was. Their female parts were lacking. Their Nehebka(misspelling?) was dreadful...sounded like Macy Gray dieing. And their cast lacked the power and raw emotion that is needed to really bring it to a new level.
Aida did an amazing job in the lower register and beginning of the song. She gave me chills during "take me in...my dreams recurring" but at the end...those final big notes where Aida needs to rip it and go for it...she flipped falsetto and lightened up so much she lost all power she had.
HOW DISSAPOINTING...i serously felt cheated...
However despite everything...again...Amneris stole the show. Her comedic timing was impecible and her voice was stellar...She did such a good job from changing from the ditzy princess to a heartbroken woman watching the man she loves slip away.

how were the sets / lighting ? Technical aspects?

they tried to recreate the broadway prodcution (in some aspects)... and did a stellar job! the difference being that the broadway had bare sets while FCLO had more sets... like a lot of walls and stuff... looked really cool

Thats too bad that the Radames wasn't as strong. We had a guy named Rick Fox, and he was incredible. On occasion he'd have a hard time with the notes, but he ate cream cheese before that particular showing(damn whoever brought us Panera!).
The Gods Love Nubia would have to be my favorite song. It really needs to have power and emotion behind it to make it just right... and sometimes it just doesn't happen.
