FLOYD'S to CLYDE'S

It's no secret. This was announced a while ago, and she has been very upfront about the fact that she changed it because she didn't want any confusion with George Floyd.

EDIT: I’m having trouble finding a source that specifically confirms this, but I could've sworn I remember reading it somewhere. The closest I could find was her interview on the “Live at the Lortel” podcast on which she says, “Ironically the play was called Floyd’s and it was in Minneapolis, and so it was a very different world and a very different time when that play premiered.” That, to me, suggests the obvious explanation. Especially since it was in July of 2020 that it was announced that the play would premier on Broadway with a new title.

It was also mentioned in the NYT coverage of Signature's The Watering Hole:

"Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner who didn’t get her first production on Broadway until 2017, is slated to be back there this fall with both “MJ the Musical” and “Clyde’s” — formerly known as “Floyd’s,” since renamed to take the pain-filled association away."
