I am thinking of a middle section from Dancing through life from Wicked....Give opinions and some suggestions....I want One to be somewhat Classical sounding (lots of vibrato, somewhat very much like les miserable or something like that.....No opera, or operetta.... no Webber.... Nothing Pop sounding..... No Gilbert and sullivan......

I would stay away from "Dancing Through Life" for sure. It's way too mainstream and frankly, not that great of a song.
If you want another "new/popular" upbeat song, think about "What Do I Need With Love?" from Thoroughly Modern Millie. Much better song while still staying that "new/popular" style.

I posted this in another thread:
The reason I would avoid 'Dancing Through Life' has nothing to do with my dislike for the show and song.
But singing a song from the most popular show currently running on Broadway is, I think, a bad first impression.
You want to show them that you care enough about the audition to find a song that fits you, not just one that is popular.
They would much rather hear a more obscure song. It tells them that you know more about musical theatre and its history then the average theatre-goer.
And hearing the umpteenth rendetion of 'DTL' will drive them up the wall.
And is the "no Sondheim, no Webber, No Gilbert and Sullivan" your rules, or theirs?

well for a comedic monologue you might try one from "The Imaginary Invalid", Argan's opening one's pretty god
although it is Moliere so it's a little dated but I think it's funny...

Posted: 1/5/05 at 6:56pmMy Professors are absolutley sick of hearing "Wicked" songs for auditions... just to let you know bud.

You're reasoning on "DTL" is perfect, Priest. Exactly what needed to be said.
Stagerage: Look into older musicals. "My Fair Lady" has some great baritone solos. There are some great songs in not so well known musicals out there. When auditioning, it's better to show the adjudicators that you're aware of something other than "mainstream" Broadway. Look around, listen to some older musicals. Good luck!

The Sondheim, And gilbert and sullivan are thiers.....Webber is mine...I want something noone else will do.....Also I was looking at the Scarlet Pimpernel...."She Was there".....Does age of the character really matter so much....I mean I know I shouldn't use something from an 80 year old but....let me know what u think

If you want something no one else will do, I'd stay away from anything on Broadway within the past 5 years. I also suggest staying away from Frank Wildhorn with the Scarlet Pimpernel, but it's your choice. I'd say that since you're 17, a song/monologue written for a character in their 20s/early 30s would be fine. I don't suggest a 17 year old doing something written for a character that's above 35.
This is all opinion, so take it as you will.

Titanic is a defintite ensemble show. No real 'leads'
And what does it matter who sings it, really?
It's a gorgeous song that is sung by a character around your age (slightly older).

The only reason I was wondering is because I know someone that was in Titanic and he was somewhat of a lead and I wanted to know if it was the song he sang. His name is Brian D'arcy James.
Ironically, I just emailed him today.:) Keep comming with those ideas.
