Regardless of what Fosse did to his dancers he still had a way of working with actors in a way that their performances came across as an organic interpretation and not just an imitation of Bob Fosse. There is also the added fact that Fosse's shows were not really character or plot driven, but DANCE driven. I don't mean that to sound disparaging toward Fosse, but he had his own distinct style that was a trademark of his productions, while Mitchell has yet to do anything on stage but imitate other great choreographer's style. So the charges of "act like I do it" are really not that surprising.

PEACE.

I cannot believe he is 47. He looks beyond fantastic.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I didn't know there were complaints with Bundy's performance... I've read many more positive things about her than negative.

Sueleen those are great points and I get what you mean (though I feel I should say Jerome Robbins--even in character driven shows like Fiddler, and Michael Bennett wer eknown fordoing the same with actors *as well* ) *(grin*

BUT I do get what you mean--and largely agree. I guess I'm kinda playign ddevil's advocate--I also don't think it's *necesarily* as bad to direct that way as lotsa profs and teachers like to claim--it depends how stringent to it you are

Sueleen's icon got twice as good! I would love to see that icon as a 3 scoop ice cream cone!

Excellent article. Thanks!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

See, every time I see Mr Jerry Mitchell - I'm nervous. Marc Shaiman commented in his rebutal diatribe that "that queen can kick you into next week!". 6 Ft 4 in and can hit that hard---
just makes me twitchy. Hope I never get on HIS bad side!( ok like I'd have the opportunity but still it the force that counts!)
