Hello! I'm super new to this site, since I'm only going to see my first show in December - Falsettos!

I was wondering if someone could give me advice for seating. I am currently most interested in front row mezzanine, dead center, as I had a friend tell me they are pretty great seats and cheaper, but would it be better to shell out extra money to sit in the center of the orchestra, third row?

I just want to have the best seats possible! :) Thank you in advance.

Well, if those are your two choices, I can't imagine not going for Orchestra 3rd row center. It's an intimate musical, not an extravaganza, so my preference would be to be close enough to see every facial expression if possible.

Those are the two I was looking at the most, For the day I am going, there are quite a few other options, just not front row orchestra center, Did you have any other recommendations?

First off, welcome to BroadwayWorld, whizzer_wins.

I had 5th row center orchestra seats when I saw the show last week and thought I wouldn't have minded being a few rows further back. I think 7th or 8th row center orchestra would be perfect. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - my seats were still great and I got lucky when two shorter women sat down in front of me. (A rarity for me.) But if someone taller was sitting in front of me it would have partially obscured my view of the stage. If I was seeing it again (I will be), and my choice was between 3rd row center orchestra and 1st row center mezz, I actually think I'd choose the mezz seats. At the Walter Kerr, the first row of the mezz overhangs the 8th row of the orchestra. And you won't have to worry about who's sitting in front of you. The only thing I'm not sure about is leg room and whether or not the rail would obscure a shorter person's view. Them's my thoughts. Grab those tickets! Wherever you end up sitting, you're going to love the show!

While on the topic, has anyone sat in the back row of the orchestra? Does the overhang block a lot of the stage?

Thank you for all the advice Luscious! :)

I am looking into the seats you mentioned, but in the case I couldn't get those, would front row mezzanine still offer a good view of facial expressions? I just ask because it is supposed to be a more 'intimate' musical, not a dazzling production like Hest882 mentioned.

I apologize for all the questions!

The front row of the mezzanine is directly above the 8th row of the orchestra, which is plenty close to see expressions of actors -- plus the added benefit of NO HEADS blocking your view in front of you.  I saw Falsettos last week from the first row mezzanine (side section) and found them PERFECT seats.  I generally prefer front row mezzanine for totally unobstructed views of the stage which is something you can't count on in the orchestra (other than front row which I wouldn't want for a musical. In the orchestra I always seem to have someone in front of me and I have to keep looking around them and I never get an unobstructed view of the entire stage.

Yes. First row mezz will offer you a great view of the stage and is close enough to see all of the performer's facial expressions. I saw the show again last night and had premium seats (6th row center orchestra on the aisle). A tall guy with a big head was sitting in the row in front of of mine. His big head obscured my view of the far left side of stage. In addition, I had a shorter but extremely fidgety woman sitting directly in front of me who I found very distracting. Very disappointing, especially since I was with my husband who was seeing the show for the first time. I gave him the better of our two seats. The theater is small. The seating is tight. The rows are only slightly raked. Get the mezz seats. You won't be sorry.

ETA: The first time I saw the show was on a Friday night. I couldn't believe the difference in the audience demographic from one night to the next. The Friday night audience was younger and more enthusiastic. Last night's crowd was extremely geriatric and far less energetic. (And I'm no spring chicken!) I don't think I've ever seen as many canes and walkers inside a theater as I did last night. I have nothing against the elderly attending the theater. Just an observation.
