I wrote to Harvey when the reviews of Hairspray just came out. He sent me a very nice autographed picture. When I finally met him at the stage door month later, me mentioned that he responded back to every piece of fan mail, saying if "Ethel Merman could do it, so could he."
Later, he also sent a signed playbill as a donation to silent auction for an educational theatre's benefit here in Chicago.
He's a very gracious and passionate man!

Posted: 11/16/03 at 8:46pmI got a short, but incredibly kind letter from Daphne Rubin Vega (I gave that to her in person, though) and I got a 3 paged letter back from Mayumi Ando from RENT.

Posted: 11/16/03 at 9:00pmElphie- when I wrote to Kristin, I just wrote c/o the Gershwin Theatre and its address and got something back so I know she received my letter. Maybe try that if you can't get the stage door address. =)

First I have to say that I love your icon, WindyCityActor! HR Puff N Stuff. Sure brings back memories.
2nd I have a confession to make. A long time ago Michael Crawford was doing a concert tour here in Florida and it was around Christmas time.
I'm a very shy person (no comments from the peanut gallery, please because it's true. Believe it or not). Well, I wanted to do something special for him and the cast/crew of the show since they were so far from home at the Holidays. I'm a sorry tangle when it comes to making things but I did learn how to make these little crochet ice skate pins (you use a paper clip to make the blade part). Anyway I must have made at least five or six hundred of them.
Then I cross stitched a Christmas card for different people in the show, including Mr. C.
I then put it all in a box and mailed it to the theater care of Mr. C. Mind you this was long, long before the days of anthrax and mail bombings. I didn’t put a return address on it.
I’ve often wondered if they ever got that box or what happened to it. It was more then likely dumped unopened into a trash can someplace but I hope if not that, the pins brought someone a little happiness that year.

Posted: 11/16/03 at 9:09pmYes, Frances Ruffelle, Adam Pascal and Sherie Rene Scott. But the one person I would have LOVED to get a response from but didn't was Raul Esparza (and I even sent a BCEFA donation check that was cashed) but I still love him! : )

Early in it's run, my friend and I wrote to each of the six dudes from "The Full Monty." Recieved a headshot and a signed playbill by the six plus the late Kathleen Freeman from Harold Nicholls aka Marcus Neville, a month later.
A bizarre note including references alluding back to his "Menudo" days was included. Yeah.

Thanks Broadway Gal!
I'm sending a letter out to Sutton some time soon and Idina, Kristen, and Derrick Williams on the Ensemble.

Posted: 11/17/03 at 4:35pmSome people who dont answer are Manely Pope- at least not to mine of RENT and Justin Johnson who I also wrote of RENT. I gave up after 6 months of waiting and now it has been about a year. O well, I know they have lives but just a little response would literally make my life!

Posted: 11/17/03 at 4:56pmI didn't write to a theater he was performing at, but I got a very gracious letter with autographed headshots from Anthony Crivello.

Posted: 11/19/03 at 11:44pmI received a very nice note for Jennifer Gambatese of Hairspray recently. She was very fast with a response and very nice in the note. Also she definitely gets bonus point for neat legible handwriting it's which is more then I can say about my own handwriting lol.
