Wonderful theatre people!
My name is Tyrone Davis, Jr. I played 'Ronny Lule' in the cast of, what was then called, WITNESS UGANDA, (written by Griffin Matthews and Matt Gould) at A.R.T. last year, under the direction of Diane Paulus. As you may have heard, we're transferring to off-broadway's SECOND STAGE later this year!
The show is about Griffin, a young African American man from New York City, who volunteers for a project in Uganda and finds himself on a journey that will change his life forever. Inspired by a true story, the show exposes the challenges confronted by American aid workers and the complex realities of trying to change the world.
But before we begin rehearsals this Fall, the whole cast is raising money to actually GO TO UGANDA in August!!
While we're there, we'll also be participating in service projects, mentoring orphans, and working alongside local artists to take part in an exchange that will help to shape our performances and our lives! Our goal is to connect with the people and places that have inspired our show and to come home and share an authentic theater experience with our audiences in New York City!
A film crew will be joining us to document our journey across the world!
The money we raise will cover: airfare, housing, transportation, food, supplies, visas, and on the ground activities.
