What an amazing night of theatre ! Fantasia has simply nailed this role !!! The first time that I saw her a few weeks back, she was very good- Her acting was excellent, and she was in fine voice--- The only criticism that I had was in her transition to older Celie. Well, that is no longer the case.
Fantasia has made Celie HERS !!! Received a standing O after "I'm Here"- so much heart and soul into the song, that grown men (myself included) were reduced to tears !
On a sidenote---- Withers-Mendes out tonight--- replaced by Angela Robinson, who was very good !!
Rumblings outside theatre that Oprah paying a visit to the show this weekend (apparantely, was on her website) She will not be disappointed !!!

I'm glad you enjoyed the show, testing.
As for Clive Barnes, the Color Purple's website has already posted his review (along with the AP's). For some reason, I can't get over the picture of him weeping during the Color Purple. And that he wasn't ashamed to admit it. lol
Oprah and Gayle are attending one of the shows today.
Aretha Franklin was there last week:

I was kind of surprised that the theatre did not already have Fantasia's reviews scattered all over, but I give them a week, and I am sure they will be !!
Talk about "love letters" !! (and well-deserved, I might add)
Yeah, I heard that they were attending the show, most likely tonight's (Sat) performance.

I totally agree with you. I saw the perfomance on opening night and again last nite. The growth was remarkable. She is astounding!! I noticed some blocking changes too.
