She was so good in everything I saw her in: television, film, and stage.
So sad to hear this, Reg. And I agree, she was always wonderful.

The only time I saw her was in Lettice and Lovage -- she was a wonderful foil to Maggie Smith and truly derserving of the Tony she garnered. RIP.
Here's a clip of that performance courtesy of YouTube:
Lettice and Lovage
I thought she was one of the redeeming features of the otherwise underwhelming production of Phedre at the National a couple of years ago.
And she was still picking up Oliviers (and Russell Tovey) in 2009.

Wonderful in Lettuce and Lovage and as Antonia in I, Claudius.
Unforgettable as Balzac's Cousin Bette for Masterpiece Theater, beautifully paired with Helen Mirren's Valerie.

I am sorry to hear of her passing. She seemed remarkable in everything she undertook.
Her final role earlier this year...

Lettice and Lovage was such a perfect experience.

Agree about Phedre.
She was wonderful in The Chalk Garden at the Donmar, for which she picked up an Olivier.
I regret never seeing Margaret Tyzack on stage.
There is an excellent obituary in today's on line NY Times. Sorry, I don't know how to provide a link.

I found her underwhelming onstage -- her work in LETTICE AND LOVAGE and Trevor Nunn's bloated over-production of ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL were entirely adequate, but nothing special.
She's wonderful in film and TV though. Her brilliant performance as the Lady Antonia in I, CLAUDIUS shines very brightly, as does her little cameo in A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
