Fastest Fingers: Disney Musicals TBD

I've heard alot of rumors about the next Disney shows to make it to the Great White Way. Can someone give me a "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" fastest fingers if they know what the order of projected appearance on B'Way is:
A) The Little Mermaid
B) On The Record (The compilation show)
C) The Hunchback of Notre Dame
D) Mary Poppins
E) Tarzan
(Feel free to editorialize if you must)
While you're at it, can someone tell me why Tarzan is even in this list? I can't believe that Disney would put loincloths on Broadway, lest they bring back "Hyperion Theatricals". Can you see it now?? 'Take Me Out' meets Disney in 'Tarzan: Full Frontal'

Posted: 1/6/04 at 11:11amThere are a lot of fine triple threats that would look great in a loin cloth. broadwayguy2- Please read your list.

Tarzan
Mary Poppins
Hunchback
Little Mermaid
On the Record
They might opt for the flsh-colored body stocking with loincloth like the Mowgli character at the parks in Disneyworld.

I saw the Lion King show at Disney World this past summer and enjoyed it MUCH more than the Broadway musical. I'm serious. It was actually good.
Mary Poppins & The Little Mermaid I wouldn't mind seeing on Broadway, I am mildly interested in them. But IMO Tarzan should stay in Disney World.

I thought Hunchback would have been great on stage.
It's one of those shows that I have started to stage and design in my head. If it had a budget (Disney, cash-cow, *cough*) the scenic elements could be beautiful.
The book and music translate well, I think.
But I'm biased... I'm a "closeted Disney-musical lover", but can't admit it, because I get laughed at by industry cohorts.

I'm looking forward to Little Mermaid if only for the possibility of Emily Skinner as Ursula.
In general I'm not so hot on Disney shows, but anything with The Divine Miss Em is fine by me.

Tarzan works shows the middle of this month with matt Morrison and Laura Bell Bundy playing Tarzan and Jane and Adam Pascal as the storuyteller.
Hunchback was done on stage and hugely successful in Germany.. a beautiful production witha greats core.. much closer to the novel than the film.. a lot darker.
I want to see Aladdin on stage.
Mary Poppins sounds promising.
I would be interested in Little Mermaid.

broadwayguy2 - "...a beautiful production..."
mmmmmmmmm.....not so much
I found the design to be rather monotonous and dull. Three hours of a slideshow projected on building blocks lost its appeal after the first 10 minutes.
The score was quite good, though.

sorry, I should have been more clear...
Yes, I have seen video footage and it DOES get repetitious in design, although I felt that the concept was unique.. I was refering more to the structure of the piece over all in book and score. I felt those elements were a lot stronger and more satisfying than the film.

Well Broadway Guy- you can see Aladdin onstage at Disney's California Adventures. I didn't love it - maybe if it was long enough so that the storyline actually made sense. Awesome effects, though.
It's hard for me to say too much, considering I haven't seen any of the Disney Broadway productions, but I love all the movies listed and think they'd make great stage adaptations. Well, I'm a bit skeptical about Tarzan, but I didn't think I'd like the movie and I loved it when I finally saw it. Plus - I'd make a terrific Ariel - or Belle for that matter. Ahh - dreaming.

Aladdin just seems to have WAY too much action and chase scenes. Plus they'll have some goofball dressed up like a carpet and people will act like its the best thing to ever happen onstage.
Plus, Disney's 'Aladdin' story is REALLY contrived.

See...
I thought I'd try to make my first thread one with laughter, tears, sex, and intrigue.
All it took was one mention of loincloths...
I think I'm going to like it here.

Posted: 1/7/04 at 11:10amWith the right design, Mermaid could be amazing. The show I want to see most is Hercules, but I'm not sure how they could stage it. It's one of my favorite Menken scores.

Odd, I was going to post that I'd love to see 'Hercules' but they'd need to scrap the score entirely. I thought it had some potential with the Motown-pastiches but the 'Go the Distance' ballad was pretty substandard and I thought Meg's song was just a two-cent rip on 'Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair.'
But I love the movie.
