"when i mean British I mean hightened and standard RP"
Best to call it RP, because there's no such thing as a British accent

"the "uncharted" accent that Patti LuPone does in Sweeney"
She's got a lot better and there's something quite endearing about it - but if she goes off-cockney or estuary, she does do it with great verve :)Eastender to Manchester in two words is wonderful to listen to and something of an achievement. She still has problems with her long vowel sounds. But in this version it doesn't seem to matter much, I prefer it to Angela Lansbury's dreadful attempt.

When I say British I'm just referring to what I've seen before in the ways of dialect tapes and books, and on resumes, etc.
Obviously there are several, but I meant the Standard British.
Or rather (as I look over a dialect book to check) it's Standard English, my apologies. Just says "standard English: North American and Briths" and then the next chapter is cockney, welsh, north british, scottish, irish...

Posted: 3/18/06 at 6:45pmI am a huge Anglophile, so of course I love English accents. They're so pleasing to the ear. Yes, I am referring primarily to the clipped, clean version that Americans call English accents and are often used in movies and stage productions. But I also love the natural accents. Even Cockney is fun to listen to. Or try to listen to, LOL.
