We have a Company thread, its time for Grey Gardens! I know some of these quotes are derived right from the movie, but others are fresh.
Here are mine:
Edith: "It's a goddamn beautiful day, Shut Up!"
Gould: "Maybe it's time I...drank from my own tumbler."
Gould: "Well, if some poor off sailor asks me to show him the Astor Bar, what am I supposed to do, ignore him?"
Little Edie: "I don't know whether you know that, I mean, do you know that?"
Little Edie: "If we're still living next year, I think a vegetable garden would be a good thing, don't you?"
Little Edie: "Do you think my costume looked alright for Brooks? I think he was a little amazed."
Edith: "People discover me everytime I leave the house, I never think anything of it."
There are soooo many, but those are a few of my favorites. List yours!

"Choose to be happy" pretty much defines my life at the moment.
Honestly . . .
In addition to those above:
"GODDAMMIT, MOTHER!!!!"
"She only left me one little kitty to keep me warm"
"Somewhere in Athens a statue is missing its pedestal"
There are SO many great lines in the show. And the lyrics---full of gorgeous imagery.
The somewhere in Athens quote is also a favorite of mine!!
"Not today, Geraldine!"
"They called me 'Body Beautiful Beale.' It's my, whadyacallit, uh, my sobriquet."
"I just have to find this Libra man!"
"They can get you for wearing red shoes on a Thursday...it's a mean, nasty Republican town."
Those are just off the top of my head.
"Get up the nerve to be
All you deserve to be"
The lyric has struck me utterly every time I've seen the show.
"He always compliments me on my corn!"
"mammorobellia, I guess you'd call it."
I agree with "It's a god damn beautiful day! SHUT UP!" A favorite ever since I first read that.
All of "AROUND THE WORLD." That's my favorite song out of the whole score.
Lately, my favorite line has been Little Edie saying, "Responsibility is the hallmark of aristocracy. That's what did me in."
Okay and what about
"I came back here to take care of my dying mother...And then she pulled a fast one on me, she kept right on breathing"
I love that line!
"Da-da-da-dummm"
And, I don't know if it's in the show, but does Little Edie still call Jerry "The Marble Faun?"
Grey Gardens has a wonderful, wonderful book. Definite Tony nom, if not win.
Yup, she does call Jerry The Marble Faun!
There is one where Edie says something about telling Jackie Kennedy to take Edith on her yacht in the Greek Islands and that shut her up. I can never word it exactly, but everytime I hear it, I just die. SO FUNNY!

when Jerry asks Little Edie how she is, she responds:
"Sublime, jerry; & yourself?"
Big Edie: Its very difficult to raise a child 56 years of age.

"Now remember, you're an old time mammy..."
Slays me!
"jerry likes my corn"
"da da da da dummmmm"
"it's a mean, nasty republican town"

I can't help noticing that most of the quotes above are also quotes from the films.
