Out of McKellen's 8 Broadway performances, which one is your favorite? I'd have to go with his Estragon personally

Wish I had been lucky enough to see them all, or even more than one! Alas, the only one I saw was No Man's Land. Didn't even get to catch Godot. Dance of Death happened when I was a child, and the rest were before I was born.
I'd be curious to hear the thoughts of someone who was able to see all or most of these. I imagine Wild Honey and Amadeus were the biggest standouts.

Salieri in AMADEUS and his one-man show about Shakespeare. I believe it was called ACTING SHAKESPEARE.

Acting Shakespeare and Richard III at BAM.
Both wonderful.
I have the poster from Acting Shakespeare framed and we got to meet him after the show. He was so kind to us two HS kids.

I was only able to view one Salieri monologue from his Amadeus. It was at the V&A show in London, and I was spellbound. I'd give a lot to see the whole thing, but I'm not sure there is any recording other than the archival one.

He was mesmerizing in Amadeus, Richard III and Waiting for Godot. However, he grossly over acted in Dance of Death. I felt so bad for Hellen Mirren, he showed no respect for her on stage. He gave a selfishly hammed up performance here.

I went to see Dance of Death for Helen Mirren. I left an Ian McKellen fan.

Has it ever been said why he didn't do the film version of Amadeus? I know he didn't really become a "star" until the mid/late 1990s, but he was still a bigger name at the time than F.M. Abraham, right?
(I should add –– I love Abraham's performance in the film version and never saw McKellen do it onstage.)
