Very glad, after disagreeing with MF last week, to be in accord with him this week.
Particularly about Idiot. Recently, a quartet of late 20-early 30 something friends attended. I was interested to hear their reaction. 2 liked Rent, 2 liked Spring Awakening. They all hated Idiot. Said one: "Who in their right mind would want to even talk to these three posers, let alone sit through their stories? They really are idiots."
...Kristin Chenoweth, the Teflon actress, to whom no emotion ever sticks...
OUCH!

newintown, when I took my date to the production in Berkeley, it was the same experience. He's in his mid-20s and has seen only the theatre I've taken him to. He HATED it. And curiously enough, I though he hit the nail on the head with all his comments: Who cares about these people, their stories are completely predictable, and the only think anyone seems to like about the show is the music - so why not just buy the Green Day album?
"Sondheim on Sondheim (Roundabout Studio 54) is a kind of Broadway-level community-theater event."
Wow. Gotta love Feingold.

I have the cast recording AND the original American Idiot album. Where's my parade?

Am I remembering incorrectly or were you not one of the puss-pusses whining about how "mean" everybody is here?
I simply adore mean!
But Bellevue was just a joke, love. I'm glad you like AI.

Interesting reviews. I can't agree with Chenoweth being the Teflon actress. Entirely too much emotion sticks to her in this production, she's a big downer in pretty much every scene.
Hayes is the Teflon actor in PROMISES PROMISES, prancing merrily through nearly three hours of pimping, infidelity, corporate gamesmanship, and attempted suicide, never allowing anything like a real consideration of anything like real issues anywhere near his character.
All variances of opinion aside, I love the way he writes ...
... a person writing about people, not a "recorder of events" who regurgitates and analyzes entire plots while throwing in one-word adjectives in parentheses and attempting to pass them off as opinions without a hint of perspective.
Instead, that was a refreshing read!

^ Agreed. Whether or not I agree with him, I always love his perspective as he is a damn good critic.
