I have to say, I'm excited he's coming back... but in Oliver? My mom guessed that would be the musical they would do next year and I didn't believe her... How did she know? Anyway...

Oliver? That is so wrong for Stratford. Whoever picks their shows hasn't been doing a great job lately.
As much as I love OLIVER!, I'd wish they'd pick something more daring. This year's INTO THE WOODS is actually a stretch for Stratford -- I wish they'd follow it up with a RAGTIME or CABARET.
They need Timothy Findley to write another original play for them.
Alas...
What a coincidence, I was just in the bookstore and flipped through a new edition of ELIZABETH REX. And I just finished reading THE PIANO MAN'S DAUGHTER. Tiff Findley is missed.
In the author's bio at the back of ELIZABETH REX, it says Findley performed at Stratford, on the West End and Broadway. I'm familiar with his appearances at Stratford and in London, but what did he do on Broadway?
I think they may have done Cabaret, but that would have been several years ago. I remember seeing West Side Story there when I was younger, too. They really should go back to shows like that. They could do one family-type show and another, more adult one.
That's what they are doing. Oliver is their family show that they will be doing in the Festival Theater. They were supposed to do "Jesus Christ Superstar" this year until something (I don't know what) stopped it and they did "Into the Woods" instead. So, I think they may do it next year. Richard Monette chooses the shows. And I think he has been really good for the festival!

Word has it Feore is considered for Artistic Director after Richard Monette retires in 2006.
Word also is he doesn't want to take the job.
