All I have to say is...why?

re: Fiddler +Harvey

why?

Because he is an incredibly talented actor who deserves to play this part as much as anyone else who could have played it and has enough confidence in his abilities that he is playing a huge risk in taking on a part in which many have their doubts about him merely because he truly loves the show and wants to share that with audiences.

I was thinking more along the lines that I didn't think that his voice didn't make him a likely choice for the role. I am not at all trying to imply that Harvey Fierstein isn't an incredibly talented actor, which he is! I'm a fan, just a bit off put, that's all.

re: Fiddler +Harvey

In all the discussion about whether Harvey is Tevye (and there has been a lot) there is no one that is saying Harvey is not a good actor...just that all roles are not for all actors.

I CANNOT see Harvey in this role at all, and the few reports coming out seem to indicate that the show now really revolves around him and his presence...and his Harvey-ism mannerisms...which is NOT what Fiddler is supposed to be.

All that aside, I'm sure he'll sell tickets, but I would much rather have seen someone more suited to this role take over from Molina.

I wouldn't mind having Harvey as MY daddy, now that he's lost 40 pounds and is butching it up onstage.
