Today I was very fortunate enough to see the Suvenir. I saw it back when it was playing at the York Theater a while ago. But I must say I think this time around the show was much better. Donald Corren was so funny and What can I say Judy Kaye was amazing. The theater was pretty full and the audience loved the show.
My only problem was not with the show but with audience members who can not shut off their cell phones for the two hours that they are there. Up in the mezzanine section at least three phones went off during the first act. It was really annoying during the intermission i wnet down and asked if they could please make another announcement becuase it was really bad. Thank god the second act was cell phone free. I think there should be a ban on cell phones in theaters.
Then of course I had a man behind me pull out a smelly sandwich which he deided to eat during the show. I am so glad the show was so good and made me forget about inconsiderate people around me.
this is so unfortunate. Souvenir was my favorite thing on Broadway this season, it was truly a wonderful experience and its a pity that more people didn't enjoy it, and those who did have teh chance to see it clearly didn't appreciate it for its worth.
It's such a lack of respect for the actors and so inconsiderate to the other audience members. As for the slob who was eating his lunch - unbelievable! Actually nothing surprises me anymore. We live in such a self-absorbed,boorish society.
Glad you got to see SOUVENIR'S final performance. I have stated in previous threads how much I loved this play. Especially the memorable work of the magnificent Ms. Kaye and the wonderful Mr. Corren. It deserved a much longer run.
TO bad the ushers dont do their job during the show. most of them stay out in the lobby and dont tell people to stop. i think people who eat in the theatre and cant remember to turn off that phone are just plain animals.
JoJo- you were the instigator? Well done! I was there in the back of the orchestra. I was talking to someone during intermission when the applause broke out. I heard a woman's voice from the mezzanine, but didn't hear what she said. Learned quickly what that was about because I started hearing others talk about it and then tell their own cell phone/theater horror stories. I did hear her the second time just before curtain went up.
I am SO GLAD I got to see this show. I first learned about Foster-Jenkins many years ago when I was given a copy of 'Glory??? Of The Human Voice.' I had tickets in November but got sick so I made it a day trip yesterday(a long, long day trip).
Truly enjoyed Don Corren and Judy Kaye...and Kaye's true singing voice is just beautiful. I got chills from Ava Maria.
