Hi! I'm new to Broadwayworld.com and I'm really enjoying the site. I haven't had a chance to see "Brooklyn" yet. I've heard some of the songs, and I'll be honest. Musically, it sounds weak. Lyrically, it's quite horrible. However, I'm a sucker for women who can belt, and this show seems to have three AMAZING vocalists in their female characters. So, I'm interested in buying the CD and seeing the show. But, guys, some of you are just MEAN to some people. Just because they love the show, doesn't mean they should be insulted. Relax!! Be kind! Have fun!

Let me just say that it truly amazes me that AlmostThere/DaleStar/BigRiverFan/Matt__G/Matt___G/Matt-G/BillyB is still allowed to post here after the constant harassment I've endured from her.

Honey, you said you saw this show 4000 times in Denver and you were at dress rehearsals and invited backstage. So, which is it, you pathetic shill? You didn't honestly think I wouldn't see this thrad, would you?

It is funny to listen how you all go on and on...those that like.... and those that don't..... But I do agree there is no reason to be RUDE.

And although I think the book to BROOKLYN ... SUCKS!.....(I could go in on detail about that) You got to give it up for the performers.... I know some of you think that they "screech" too much.... But is that their fault....They are doing what they are hired to do... If anyone of you were cast in the show...could you hit those notes.... very few can.... you give it up to them....especially Eden and Ramona...

And as far as the comment about "all five" audience members... you better read the grosses.... and yes there might be a lot of twofers and discounts.....but the houses have been good and they are making a profit.... Not many shows can say that they are running in the black....especially after those reviews... The weekly nut is low...someone produced this right!

One more comment about lyrics that progress the plot... Most show tunes today do not...they are mostly character songs... stating how a character feels...about themselves...about someone they love etc... inner monologues....If you listen to the songs in BROOKLYN.... They accomplish this too.."THERE'S A HEART BEHIND THESE HANDS" "I STILL BLEED" "CHRISTMAS MAKES ME CRY" to name a few. Other songs in the show are done as performances on concert stages....the purpose for these are to show the talent.... And again...I can not believe any one can deny these performers their due.... I have not been to many shows where there are standing ovation in the middle of the show.... and yes I agree with the AMERICAN IDOL comments....

You rock on, Showfan..........and prepare for the assault. There are those around these parts that won't let you get away with that much positive feedback about this show no matter how right you are. Good luck.

Read the grosses for Brooklyn?
Okay... for last week they were 68.5%

You're right, that's the best percentage I've ever seen.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

Umm, bythesword84, I'd hate to burst your bubble and I hate to even get into this discussion, but I have to say that I've seen Brooklyn over 70% capacity weekly average before.

It's not bursting MY bubble. I couldn't care less what the show does or doesn't do. She/He said look at the figures, so I pointed out what it did this week.

Actually 68.5% is attendance, not gross. The gross was $324,759. The third lowest gross for a musical the last week above Dracula and Pacific Overtures. The lowest gross for Brooklyn since opening week. I sure hope its running costs are low.

But I will agree that attendence and gross has little to do with quality of the show sometimes.

Otherwise PACIFIC OVERTURES and GEM would not be where they are.

I agree that grosses have nothing to do with quality sticktopriest... god knows there has been **** that has run on and on and on...... and on...

65% 70% who cares...the bottom line is people walk out of the theatre happy.... I realize they may have a less critical eye.... I walk out and say "why." I wanted so much more too...

I heard the nut is only 275k so at 325k that makes a profit of 50k. That pays the bills...keeps people employed... and a little pocket change... of course will take forever to pay back....and there is always the tour.... (I know that scares you BROOKLYN haters....lol)

Not sure i want to play the numbers game.... just be kind to those onstage....
Those actors deserve our respect. They give their all everynight... and in my opinion they earned the right to be on a Broadway stage.... no matter the material might be lacking....

Saw Brooklyn last night. Talent? Yes! The voices were wonderful, including the pit singers. Score? One really good song, others were weak at best. Book? It's a show about a show that has a show in it? Weak at best, although I have enjoyed musicals whose books were weak, this was weaker than most.

Sets were unimpressive, although the props were clever and the costumes were at times quite inventive and humorous.

I hate to be preached to in a musical; present the show and let me take away what I can. Too much moralizing!

Overall, it would have been more appropriate to off Broadway but if you can get a cheap ticket, not a total loss of an evening since there are some fine performances that make it worth seeing.

If you liked it that much, you'd better go see it again. There's a possibility it's toast come January. It's sold well through the holidays, but that's about it. Nothing past that.
