Finally saw Chitty tonight and loved it. What a great play and cast. Now that it's apparently closing December 31st, if you haven't seen it better hurry. The musical numbers were amazing. I thought Jan Maxwell (the Baroness) stole the show. Met most of the cast at the stage door after the show, including the actors who played Truly, the Baroness, the Baron, Jemima, Jeremy, the Child Catcher, several of the sewer kids, and the toy-maker. No sign of Grandpa or Carracticus.
The first time Chitty flew at the end of the first act, it brought a tear to my eye.
Peace and Love,
Chitty Flies
Jan Maxwell was simply amazing, and stole the show away from the flying car. A BRILLIANT comedic performance.
She should have won the Tony...
She totally should have won.
Sorry you didn't meet Raúl (Caractacus) -- he's a doll.
She deserved that Tony more than anything. That woman deserves a medal for that role.
And dude, emcee -- FIVE TIMES and no Raúl. BACKSTAGE and no Raúl. It's a crime, I tell you.
He's elusive, that one. I've caught him at the stage door less than half the times I've seen the show. 'tis a crapshoot, but he's lovely!
it is...i've caught him...lets see....two out of six? but to be fair, the first time i didn't stage door, and the second he was on vaca...so really two out of four...that ain't bad.
It was actually kind of funny, I knew because it was raining he'd actually come outside. He looked me straight in the face and walked off. I cried a little, I admit it. Haha. And no, I'm not a freaky fan or anything, believe me.
Sigh. I'm going to write to him and tell him I've been trying to meet him for years and I never have. Who knows?
I won't lie, he can be a b*tch, like anybody else. I'm sorry!
Write to him, though. He'll definitely send you something back. It could be a note about his chest hair, but it'll be something!
I am glad you had a good time. I saw it again last week and enjoyed myself even more this time.
Too bad it is closing.
At least Raúl's upfront about it. Haha.
I swear to god, you and I have HAD to be at the same place at the same time. Aida.. Rent.. Chitty.. SOMETHING.
And now my random chance to pimp -- go to effing Ars Nova on the 14th for KC&GC! Please and thank you.
yahhh. i just got a signed pic back from him. :) i lurve it.
oh, I'm SURE we have. I'm all over the place. I don't doubt it!
This reminds me that I want to mail him a picture of us to sign.
I'm going to send him a letter soon. If only because I know at least then I can articulate what I really mean instead of ruining my one chance blurting out something buffoon-ish at the stagedoor (as I am known to do).
i don't know about Em, green, but you and I have been at the same place!! haha...i was at the chitty stage door the night that girl was there with her mom who flipped out about the cow phone? i was the OTHER girl that was there...i think that was when Raúl was on vaca, right? i think...
Honestly, I wouldn't know what to say. I'd just be like "Hello. If I speak, I'm going to start to mutter Clay Aiken lyrics. So I'll just say hello. Picture?"
It's that bad.
A cow PHONE? WTF?
OH MY GOD.
That was the WEIRDEST LADY EVER.
Okay. So I bought my friend a phone cover. It's a cow. It has a cow bell. It jingles. And this lady completely flipped out over it. Gretchen doesn't even carry it on her phone anymore now!
Honestly. She said it made her night. A phone cover.
And yes, that was when he was on vaca.. Rick was filling in for him.
Wow. I... don't know what to say to that.
she was definately WAAAAY too excited about it...her daughter was absolutely mortified.
I think I was waiting around for Marc. Who never came out. But yeah, freak.
All the actors at the stage door were really nice, but I'd say Kevin Cahoon (the Child Catcher) was the sweetest. We chatted a bit. Erin Dilly (Truly) pointed out the young lady who played Jemima to me (I didn't even ask); I would have never recognized her.
Peace and Love,
Chitty Flies
Erin & Kevin are the sweetest, I agree!

I have seen the show six times, and have talked to Raúl after every performance except the very first preview. I waited in the rain. And he didn't come out.
Sorry for the threadjack, but about the Tony. Jan was great, don't get me wrong. She was my favorite thing about the show!
But, Kelli O'Hara was amazing and much more complex.
Sorry, please continue.
I neglected to post my great appreciation not only for the cast, but I thought the Chitty orchestra was amazing. Ashamed that they are hidden and get no special recognition, like the cast, at the curtain call.
Peace and Love,
Chitty Flies
