Posted: 1/15/06 at 2:04pmHow often would you say that flashbacks are done in a Broadway show? Can you think of any examples. I only know Wicked, which is told as one giant flashback.

Passion has a lengthy piece called "Flashback", and much of Violet is flashbacks to young Violet and her father.

Part of Little Women is a flashback. Same for the first act of See What I Wanna See (Off-Broadway).
In the original production of Sweeney Todd, when Mrs. Lovett is telling Sweeney about what happened to Lucy and the scene is acted out, would that be considered a flashback?

MARIE CHRISTINE has flashbacks WITHIN flashbacks WITHIN flashbacks (like Phantom, it is told as a flashback...then MC flashes back a few times).
SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE is mainly flashbacks in Act One...even act two has some.
HELLO AGAIN moves back and forth through time.
I think someone likes flashbacks...

I'm pretty sure that the original version or any subsequent production of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN were not told in Flashback, but pretty sure Buffalo Bill introduced the newest revival in a sort of flashback fashion.

Passion has a lengthy sequence called "Flashback" about Fosca and her husband. It is an amazing flashback sequence.
You could argue that Company is entirely a flashback but many critics think it's a dream.

Yes, Annie Get Your Gun could be considered one...
Even Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat ("Way way back, many centuries ago"), but that might be stretching it.
