I got a chance to check out the national tour of Flower Drum Song...and all I have to say is...it was an amazing show! Jose Llana's voice was amazing and to that little Yuka Takara...A STAR IS BORN. What a voice! Emily Hsu who played Linda Low was remarkable...I absolutely enjoyed every minute of her "I Enjoy Being a Girl." The rest of the cast was strong, and those costumes...WONDERFUL! The colors and the creativity of each costume...You must see the costumes in "Chop Suey," they are absolutely adorable.
If the tour is coming to your area...check it out. You will not be disappointed with one minute of it. What a fun night! What a great show...its easily giving my favorite show Man of La Mancha a run for its money!
The show is an A+!!!! I'll definately being checking it out again before it leaves on the 16th.

Where is the tour now? Is there a schedule posted somewhere?
I seem to remember a lot of talk about the tour being very limited in terms of how many cities it will visit.
I just can't help but have a fondness for this show from my "formative years"....I'd like to see what they have done with it. I know the whole book was rewritten.....I have an intrinsic distaste of this in principle, but would be open to seeing the new version.

Posted: 11/12/03 at 1:39pmI saw it in Sacramento. They are only stopping at 4 places, last I heard. I think their next stop is Seattle, but don't quote me on that. Try looking the dates up online.

Posted: 11/12/03 at 2:46pmI saw Flower Drum Song on Broadway and really enjoyed it. There were certain aspects that could have been developed a bit better, but for the most part it was wonderful. Lea Salonga was in it and that was a real treat. For the most part it doesn't take itself too seriously, but then it will hit you with a really profound moment. I've always loved the movie, and the show was just as special.
