I see Floyd Collins is opening next week in a production by the West Coast Ensemble, on La Brea in Hollywood. Anyone know anything about this company? It's a show I've always wanted to see.
I'm surprised no one has responded to this question yet. I became a subscriber to West Coast Ensemble after their superb production of Sunday in the Park with George last year. That show was one of the four Best Musical Small Theater Ovation nominees and was extended an additional four weeks. Though I'm a bit iffy about whether or not I'll like Floyd Collins (after listening to the CD), I'm sure they'll do a great job. Stef Tovar and Dana Reynolds, the two stars of Sunday, are in Floyd Collins. Below is a link to a rave review of Sunday which I found online.
SUNDAY IN THE PARK REVIEW
eslgr - I PROMISE that you will like it. :) Judging by your previously wonderful tastes.
I've only heard the recording of the original production - but it makes me cry every time - it's so hauntingly beautiful -I'd love to see it performed live. Good luck, if you go - and let us know how it is!
I have been enough lucky to see a (well worth the wait) production of floyd. It's such a haunting piece of theatre. It's on my to do list, to perform in. Updated On: 2/7/05 at 10:36 AM
eslgr8 thank you so much for the link! I guess I'll be going.

Gosh I hope we'll see some reviews! I saw the Goodman production years ago and the show is certainly...um..creative? The music is indeed gorgeous and the show is not dull, but it certainly was s flawed work. I'm curious to hear how it will play now with people who are familiar with the score.
As the friend I attended with said: "That is the best musical about a spelunker trapped in a cave that I've ever seen!"
I was able to see the original "tour" production that ran at the Old Globe in San Diego in 1999 and later to perform in a production myself.
Amazing show. It's definitely a show for which you will either have the taste or not but I consider it a high point of my theatregoing experience to have seen the production and a high point of my acting experience to have performed in a production.
Mallardo, you haven't replied to this thread yet. How do you feel about seeing the West Coast Ensemble production now that several of us have recommended it to you?

Oops! You're absolutely right. I missed Mallardo's response. Apologies!!! And by the way, Erika Amato has given excellent performances at West Coast Ensemble. Only sorry she couldn't be in this one!
