Hot Tix ($20 tickets) just went on sale today for the first half (May 3 - May 20) of the run of Follies at the Ahmanson in Los Angeles. Hot Tix for the second half (May 22-June 9) go on sale May 8.

HOWEVER there is a catch. For the entire run of Follies, Hot Tix are ONLY being sold in the balcony. They are not selling the usual end-of-row seats in the orchestra as Hot Tix, the way they do for every other show that plays the Ahmanson. I was told this was because those seats are considered "full view". That's funny, because they are always sold as "partial view" when they're sold as Hot Tix. And they ARE partial view, although you only lose about 10%.

So be aware - if you want Hot Tix for Follies, be prepared to sit in the balcony.

This isn't new for the Ahmanson. The past couple of productions i've seen with hot tix have always been either balcony or the side boxes. Last time I got orchestra hot tix was spring awakening. Luckily American Idiot has the lottery but if you look at the website for hot tix it says balcony only.

Interesting. The only time I've ever been offered balcony seats for Hot Tix is on the day of performance. Otherwise I've always had seats in the orchestra.

I looked all over the page for Follies and nowhere does it say anything about Hot Tix being only in the balcony. I realize your comment related to the page for American Idiot (which I'm not seeing so I've never looked at their page), but if they made a specific mention on AI's page, then they could just have easily done the same thing on the Follies page. But they didn't.

My experience with Hot Tix has always been that when I have purchased them in advance on the day they go on sale they have always sold me balcony seats. But when I have purchased them well into the run of the show itself I have always gotten side orchestra seats. So now I always wait till a few days before I want to go and head to the box-office in person, mid week, in the afternoon, when there is no one there.

I bought Hot Tix for American Idiot and they were in the side orchestra (which was definitely partial view for that show). My friends also got Hot Tix in the side orch for Bring it On. What the website says about hot tix is that DAY OF, they are only available in the balcony- for Idiot, they sell unsold balcony seats as Hot Tix day of (I have heard they usually have more than just balcony, though).

Still, that's a bit discouraging as I was hoping to get the side orch Hot Tix for Follies. I really hate their whole Hot Tix system though...always takes an hour to get through when they go on sale, and many performances are sold out by the time you do.

I've only ever bought Hot Tix the day of the show, and always sat in the balcony.
I was thinking of buying the $55 tickets at the back of the orchestra (in the middle section), but does that have an obstructed view too???
Any opinions on $55 back of orchestra vs Hot Tix before I commit?

i called today to get a hot tix for a friend, they said that they were only selling hot tix for the balcony. i ended up not getting a ticket because they were only selling the first 3 weeks of the run.
apparently May 8th is when they plan on selling the second wave of hot tix.

I've bought Hot Tix the day they go on sale many times, and always get side orchestra (which are great seats, and rarely obstructed unless you're all the way at the end). It was disappointing but unsurprising to find out they're only offering the balcony for FOLLIES. Many rear orchestra and mezz seats are still unsold, but CTG will leave them open in the hopes of selling them at full price closer to the performance.

And I agree with Eden. Getting through the day Hot Tix are released is always a hassle, and you usually end up having to try for several dates. I'm also not a fan of the balcony at the Ahmanson - it's incredibly high and far from the stage.

The mezzanine does come over the back of the orchestra. Your view might be obstructed because scaffolding is used in FOLLIES for the ghosts to walk around on. Although, I saw FELA! at the Ahmanson and sat in the middle of Orch row Y and could see everything fine even the people on the scaffolding for that show.

Every Hot Tix sold by CTG says Limited View.

Even Hot Tix in the center section at the Mark Taper Say Limited View.
I think Les Miz is when CTG realized the side orchestra seats could be sold for big bucks if it's a hit.

In my experience with Hot Tix when I saw LITP the first time I got right box seats which were partial view and then a second time got orchestra seats. For Edward Scissorhands I also got box seats that were partial view and for N2N I got balcony seats at full view. I think it may just depend on the production. I usually go the day of the performance so that is probably why I get balcony seats, but I have no complaints about the balcony.

I guess I'll be waiting of the next wave of tickets on May 8 for Follies.

I sat in a box at the Ahmanson once, and I'd say all the boxes there should be considered partial view. They're even more obstructed than the extreme side orchestra.

If you'd rather not get HotTix but don't want to pay top price either, any seat in the rear mezz is fine and preferable to the balcony.

Every show is a little different when it comes to HOT TIX and what part of the theatre the producers will use for HOT TIX. For "Carnage," it was the balcony boxes, and for most shows, it's the extreme side 2 seats, on each side of the Orchestra.

For me, the balcony is just way too high up, so I purchased full price tickets for the 2 days that I'm seeing the show. Got fantastic seats for both performances.
