It is like your parents announcing one day they were moving away & not taking you with them. I am in a state of shock. This is mind blowing
I used to hit Strand, B& N & Circuit City when I went to footlight. Now what will I do ? Another little bit of new York lost. New York is being sterlized a little @ a time
To N Martin, it is definitely the fault of the Republicans. Oy Vey is all I can say to the news & this statement
This is sad. Whenever I went to States it was always toward the top of my must do activities...particularly when searching for out of print vinyl etc.
This is very very sad. At least they'll still be online. I knew I shouldn't have skipped going last time I was in the city!

Before I go into my sarcastic mode, I love this store. I will miss browsing through their cds and lps.
Now, what on earth are those extremely friendly clerks going to do?
They will have to turn to prostitution probably.

PROSTITUTION? They are going to be really hungry.
Awww!! I was looking forward to popping in during my August trip. Jarico and I didn't have time to stop by last year, so I was counting on this year. I imagined it was an institution that would never die. Oh well... At least it will still be open online.

Since I live in LA, I'd only been there a few times during trips to NY, but it was always an interesting place to browse through--amazing some of the stuff you'd find there. I'm very glad to hear the website isn't going anywhere, though, since I still use that quite a bit from out here.
> Now, what on earth are those extremely friendly clerks going to do?
I must admit, I thought of this as well.
> They will have to turn to prostitution probably.
But I can assure you, this was the *furthest* thing from my mind.
I personally have never had a problem with any of the clerks at Footlight, true they do seem to get younger and younger, but that just might be me...I'm sure people like Chita33 or baddadnpa are those overweight fat vicious queens that are in there every time I am...All the time wondering why they are all alone at night doing nothing but listening to showtunes...
Hester, while inflection is not clearly evident in the written word, I was joking with my prostitution post. Nothing in my post indicates an opinion about the clerks' physical appearance or ability to actual prostitute themselves, unlike your post. Did you get up on the bitch side of bed this morning. Relax and try to have a good time, huh?
I rest my case....Sounds like a vicious queen to me...
You are the one that started the name calling bitch, not me.

Well, COCKY BALLS! That's very dissapointing, but at least we still have the option of the online store.
I for one am going to miss Footlights. I've gotten so many cast recordings there over the past few years. It will be strange not going in there to browse and shop. I've been going to Footlight at least one a week since I first came to NYC 6 years ago. I also adore the guys that work there. Arnold knows everything. If I want to know if somethings on cd, or was on cd and now out of print, which always seems to be the case, he lets me know. Steve at the front desk is directing a production of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG right now and he gave me a card for it and told me how he would love to have me come, which I am. And Michael Rupert's partner, who I can't remember his name because he's hardly ever there, I told him how much I loved Michael and he was so nice to me as I went on and on about how wonderful his partner was and also for giving me a CD of MAIL which I will always cherish. I am simply heartbroken it is closing, but I wish everyone there well.

First, Sheldon Silver kills the West Side Stadium, now he kills an East Side institution!
Damn Democrats!!
Seriously, I'm personally outraged over this. Some folks here have mentioned rents. Do we know for sure that's the reason? They say they are "pleased" to announce this. They say they can better serve us on-line? Rubbish. All it means is we'll now have to pay extra for the shipping! How is that better? Unless the rent talk is true, this is baloney.

I will make my final pilgramage Saturday 6/11. I will than look for a watering hole to have a farewell toast. Another little bit of great NY goes down the crapper. I feel like I am visiting my brother who is on death row & this is the last time I will see him before he is executed
