I just read in another thread that they are having a footloose revival with Kevin Bacon. Is that true? This was my first musical. It isn't that old, why would they want to revive it?

I think it would be silly to have a revival. The show was cute and silly fluff but definately not revival material. Would love to know more about this bit of information. Anyone else hear about it?

Not only that, but it was on Broadway only 5 years ago.

Kevin Bacon was born in 1958 wich makes him a little more than "almost 40"!

PEACE.

what makes them think Kevin Bacon is such a name now? Footloose is Footloose and no matter how hard they try to make it semi decent, it will never work again.

They want Kevin Bacon to play the Reverand. And I LOVED this show when it came out. But I don't think its revival material either.

Part of the problem is that people are too familiar with the movie. Its like when people go to "Grease" expecting to see a stage version of the movie and then get mad when there are different songs, etc. You just want to shake them and say "HELLO!!! The stage show actually came BEFORE the movie!!!" I don't think it would be a big success unless they staged the movie, which would be a big disappointment to avid Broadway supporters, in my opinion. Though I suppose Kevin Bacon would be a ticket draw.

I love Kevin Bacon.

This is another one in which the movie will interfere with the success of the show, instead of help it.

I love this show, but I agree, it is not revival material. No where close.

No joke intended. The story's been going around for about 6 months now. Kevin Bacon enjoyed his last stage appearance in AN ALMOST HOLY PICTURE so much that he's financing a re-write of FOOTLOOSE and intends to play the preacher. I've read about this on several message boards. Somehow I think the Westport Country Playhouse is involved.

I think the popularity of his appearence on Will & Grace doing the "Footloose" moves also helped goose this from rumour to reality status.
