I'm curious if anyone knows anything about Forbidden Broadway and if it's good or not. I've seen ads that make it sound really interesting and funny; is it? Is it an annual thing?
I don't know about the latest incarnation, but the ones in the past are HILLARIOUS. But a bit of caution. If you do not know a lot about musical theatre, then you might miss a lot of jokes.
I have been going for 23 years. It is the best way to spend your time. If you love theater you will have the best 90 minutes of your life.
If you are new to the theater you will have a fun time.
They don't call me the Forbidden Broadway Groupie for nothing.
Run there. YOUR STILL HERE? Go and get tickets.

Oh yes another FB groupie here, GO! and have a grand old time laughing you butt off! Can't wait to see what they have been up to!
wow this just happened on another thread..that was #1Elphie and not me. Oh well I forgive you Corine lol! I def plan on seeing it as well though...as soon as my bank account is not soo empty from the last tix I bought!
Sadly, I don't live as close to Douglas Fairbanks as you. But I have seen the show a dozen or so times (maybe 20), but I do have all the CDs and my tenage kids still sing along to Annie turning 30. As a matter of fact that is what I had to sing on my 30th b-day before I could have any cake!
The current incarnation let me down. I used to go when they were upstairs at Paulsons on 72nd St. I found this production very sloppy. Maybe it's because I saw the second day of performances, but I expected more. I also didn't like the old pieces they put back in. I understand using old songs, but I didn't love the selections they made.
The show had lost a lot of it's kick when I saw it on the east side and I never went back. Then just about a year ago I purchased the CD of Forbidden Broadway Cleans Up It's Act which was real good and I guess I was expecting that level of talent - performance and script wise when I went to Summer Shock.
20 is wonderful.
WOO HOO MOM.
I think we could be fast friends.
Sorry Elphie, I just call you all Wicked as a joke.
That would be so cool! I am planing a trip down some time later this month ( I promised my youngest daughter a trip to see a show if she made Honor Roll ) Well it was a trip to see Boy From Oz, but she said she'd rather see Wonderful Town and FB! ( Gee I wonder where she gets that from?) So its 2 shows for less than the price of the hunky Mr. Jackman. But I am sure he will be back.
mominator I just want to commend your parenting. your daughter obviously has a good head on her shoulders to pick WT and FB over Jackman. the kids I teach (age 6-11) will talk about and sing nothing but Mamma Mia, Annie, and Millie. well I fixed that right up with a little tool called timeout.

Some of their stuff is really great. Les Mis and Titanic Parodies. Others are unfair, not funny, and just mean. Parodies are one thing, but they just insult every show on broadway no matter the show.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Corine likes this show.
Forbidden Broadway is freaking hilarious on CD...I can't imagine how wonderful it is in person!
Matt-
I LOVE Forbidden Broadway. I have seen it 31 times and it will be 32 tonight, woo hoo. (granted that is over the past 23 years)
I have never loved any show as much as Forbidden Broadway.
(I saw it over 16 times over the last several years and forget to count all the times I saw it with my Father.
Avenue Q comes pretty close to FB in the love factor and Millie is right behind Q)

LOL Broadway Matt! Yes she got hooked on WT after she heard
the cast recording of it, and she noe loves Donna Murphy's
voice. She also still likes Mamma Mia (I think mostly because
the actor who played Skye made a huge fuss over her on her 15th
B-day!)
And YES Radford all shows the good, the great the bad AND the horrid are not safe from being lampooned by FB! So ease up. It is there to be funny, don't take things so serious. Heaven knows there are enough serious things in the world at the moment.
Saw Forbidden Broadway for the first time in December and laughed my butt off! Had to buy the CD's after that. Like someone already said, though, if you don't know the shows really well you won't get it.

oh god... Forbidden Broadway! THe most fun i've ever had at a comedy show! WOW! it was GRRRREAT!
Glad you feel that way taboo.
That is how i feel.
It is a very addictive show. I still prefer the last version to Summer Shock.
I love many of the numbers that are no longer in this version.
Gerard needs to bring back "You Can't Stop My Seat", Mamma Mia,
Glossy Fosse with Melanie among older classics like Chita and Rita, I hate Ben.
Ooooh! I so agree Corine2, I just loved I hate Ben, and Chita and Rita. Maybe a FB Greatest Hits 2 (or 3 CD) set could be in the works someday?
Mom,
Those songs "I hate Ben, Chita Rita are on cds i own every one of them.
I wish they would release "You Can't Stop My Seat" The Gimmee Gimmee number, the new Rose's Turn sung by Donna English who sadly is not in Summer Shock.
I also love Donna English's version of Mamma Mia as Julie Andrews. The woman is a pro and the show is not the same without her. I also loved her understudy Gina who really is one of the funniest people on this planet.
I adore her.
My husband and I just saw Forbidden Broadway for the first time during yesterday's matinee performance. I thought it was hysterical! But yeah, you DO need to "know" the shows to fully appreciate and "get" all the jokes.
So when they start the new show in mid-Septmember, will it be completely different or do they just change a few scenes here and there? I know that with Beach Blanket Babylon (which we also saw for the first time this past Spring), they continually pull some stuff and add new stuff. Just trying to decide how soon we should go to see it again.
