Fosse's original choreography CHICAGO

In the current revival of CHICAGO the Hot Honey Rag number uses Fosse's original choreography. What puzzles me is why, unlike in the original choreography, Roxie and Velma do hand madras. I think Reinking's choreography has hand madras in All That Jazz at some point as well. What's that all about and what's the connection to Fosse? It's hard to tell in the photo I have here but this is the point they both do madras at the very top of Hot Honey Rag.
