None in New York. Several in London.

Posted: 4/19/06 at 11:55pmMind you, I've long thought that some shows SHOULD, which would make it easier for theatre-loving tourists (who make up 70% of the audience) to add in one more show to a short visit, but the tradition going back decades (a century?) is for only Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees and no producer thus far has been brave enough to test the waters and try out a Thursday or Friday matinee (which many shows in London have).

Posted: 4/19/06 at 11:58pmYeah, Friday matinees would seem to be more popular than Wednesday ones

In his book THE SEASON, William Goldman said that in an informal poll of theatre goers, if it were an option - Friday matinees would be one of the most popular times to attend a show.
I bet eventually Broadway will start staggering matinee days as well. I mean it took how many years for Monday to not be completely dark on the Great White Way?

Posted: 4/20/06 at 12:10amI've always liked that Papermill (in Milburn, NJ) runs Thursday matinees. This has twice allowed me to squeeze in an extra show during a week-long New York trip. But Friday matinees would be the best, I must agree.

It's very rare. Peter Pan had a Thurday one...and that's all I can think of.
As Margo said, it would be great to have a wide variety daily...it would actually likely help shows because there would be less options to choose from every day.
In London, matinees are usually at 2:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Friday matinees are usually either at 4 or 5.
I think they should start doing this in NY (not necessarily change time).
Broadway's schedules are, Sadlil, for the record, usually:
Tuesday-Saturday evening; Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday matinees with a Sunday evening.
Evening everyday except for a dark Wednesday and matinees on both weekend days.
Monday-Saturday evenings with Wednesday and Saturday matinees.
The only time you'll likely find a Friday matinee is during the holiday seasons.

Any chance they would do it around the Easter/Spring Break time?

Posted: 2/22/07 at 8:31pmNo. If anything, they'll add a Sunday evening if it's a three day weekend.
