#0Friday after Thanksgiving
Posted: 10/20/06 at 1:57pmI've been trying to find discounted theater tickets for the Friday after Thanksgiving. Seems the weekend is blacked out for deals and everything is full price. My brother (a NY-er) calls it Black Friday for all the hordes of people that are in town. So - should I give up, or keep trying as the date gets closer? I assume the lines at TKTS will be horrendous too. Any suggestions?

We got discounted tix to The Little Dog Laughed for Friday 11/24, it's on BroadwayBox, if that interests you.
Bumping to ask does anyone know where I can find a list of what off-Broadway shows will be on on Thanksgiving night? I found a list of Thanksgiving night Broadway shows online-
Avenue Q 8 PM
Chicago 8 PM
A Chorus Line 8 PM
Les Miserables 8 PM
Mary Poppins 8 PM
Rent 8 PM
but can't find a similar list for off-Broadway.

hmm I am sure you can find something. I always thought the term Black Friday was just a retail term. LOL good luck with finding something.

I've done TKTS several times the day after Thanksgiving and my suggestion is just to get there early. It opens at 10am for matinees only and then tickets for the 8pm shows go on sale at 3pm. I think we got there at 9am for matinee tickets and were fine with a good selection of tickets. I think we also got in line around 1ish for evening tickets. Also check cancellation lines, student rush, standing room only and lotteries. All info on rush/lotteries can be found at playbill.com. Just be careful because playbill can delay in updating info.

I'm going to be in NY from the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to the Sunday after. I've never been to NYC around this time, so I was wondering how crowded the box offices tend to get during this time. I was planning on doing rush for shows like Grey Gardens, Company, Les Mis, The Color Purple, and Spring Awakening. Is it going to be nuts trying to get tickets? If I do TKTS, I should be fine if I get there early?
Thanks.
