Posted: 6/3/03 at 5:15pmI wanted to see this, but it wasn't on the top of my list. Hopefully they will give us a tour.

I too regret to see it close. I am going to see if I can work my back to NY before the 15th. Maybe the Tony awards will spawn some new interest in it.

Posted: 6/4/03 at 12:07amHooray! The idiot producers who brought a kiddie show to Broadway at $90.00 a pop get what they deserve, the morons.

Posted: 6/4/03 at 12:26amyes, i think it sad, but totally expected. the numbers were about 50% maybe once. It was toomuch of a kiddee show for broadway. You couldn't really enjoy it without taking kids with you.

I enjoyed it and thought it was well done. My best friend who is 46 liked it more then any kid in the theater.
It was charming. I hope it does not close.
It would better fit in an Off Broadway house like the Minetta Lane.

I agree that it would be better suited in a smaller (MUCH smaller) venue, but the show deserves to stay open. Not only is it adorable, but it teaches kids valuable lessons and brings them to the theatre to see their favorite storybook characters manifested onstage. Hell, I cried every time Frog and Toad sang a song about how valuable their friendship was, because it reminded me of my best friend and I, and I'm 19.
Unfortunately, this is one of those shows that needs a Tony award to stay open. What number are they doing on the Tony's, anyway?

Posted: 6/4/03 at 11:51amHow many of the folks calling it "A Kiddie Show" actually saw it? And, by virtue of the same analysis, isn't "The Lion King" a kiddie show? Beauty and the Beast? It was a delightful, small show that the kids and grownups who were there the night I was LOVED! And it will do VERY well on tour.

Posted: 6/4/03 at 11:55ami have not seen it, but i am saying that most people without kids seemed to shy away from it becasue of reviews that wrote it off as a kiddee show.

Posted: 6/4/03 at 11:56amI wanted to see it, but I'll live. Maybe it would have done better as an off-Broadway show (like The Prince and the Pauper).

Posted: 6/4/03 at 1:07pmMusicMan - I am with you totally. The same thing is here with Ragtime in everyone's opinion, the show had absolutely no set and they wondered why people weren't shelling out top prices to see it.

Posted: 6/4/03 at 2:37pmFrog and Toad did play off-Broadway first--it sold out at the New Victory Theatre. They really needed a smaller Broadway venue if they wanted it to run.
