I've been living and dying on that IMDB board, too, taz! I was SHOCKED with the unanimously glowing reviews, ranging from "very good" to "masterpiece". I think there has been ONE slightly negative review out of ten or so in the last few months. Those are some great odds! For comparison's sake, I also haunted the CHICAGO board back then and there was a MUCH greater variance in the reviews for that, particularly before it opened in limited release. All signs point to "hit" for NINE!.
I am eagerly awaiting a detailed review to pop up on AICN, as well.

I know! Me too P. I can't believe no spies have reported in to Harry yet.
Also, everyone is RAVING about Take It All (replacement doe Be On Your Own).
I am excited again!
They have been making everyone who attends a screening actually sign off on no 'blogging' - so I think thats why there haven't been any early reports on blog sites like AINT IT COOL NEWS.
Thanks MB.
Btw, running time is currently 135 minutes. Of course it still be trimmed based on audience reaction.
Yes, but don't forget these new reviews are for the "Weinstein cut" which is the short version, not the "Marshall cut" which purportedly contains "Simple" (Cruz, possibly also filmed as a Cruz/Kidman duet?) and "Only With You" (or at least some of it).
P
Yea, I saw that everyone was saying Simple was in the initial screenings, but not the more recent NY screening.
As long as it's on the DVD.
True, but isn't it ultimately Weinsten's choice of cut that's going to get any distribution?
I don't think I've actually read a review from anyone who attended any screening with any alternate footage, so I'm assuming Marshall's cut will be included via deleted scenes on the dvd.

On some of the threads over there people mention that "they" (whoever was in charge of the screening) mentioned that there was more footage that may be added.
I think it was at the S.F. screening.
Well, Weinstein also tried to get Quentin to trim 25 minutes from INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (and if you've seen it, you can guess what 20 minutes would go in one scene being deleted, which is what Harvey wanted) and Quentin protested and Harvey eventually relented. $120 million later, Weinstein's cut is all but forgotten.
I hope Marshall reminds Harvey of all the statuettes he has thanks in no small part to him and we get "Simple" in the final cut, at the very least.
But, then again, I'm one of those people that thinks CHICAGO works better with "Class" (and would have been PERFECT had they filmed "My Own Best Friend" as Condon envisioned it in the script).
If the Weinstein cut is 135 mins, I have a funny feeling we won't be seeing any more footage slipping back in, though, if Cruz is as good as they say she is it would be foolish to cut her ballad. Then again, no "Simple" will make the LEAD and SUPPORTING fields more defined, as Cotillard is being touted as a lead and Cruz supporting. It all DOES come down to politics, no?
Just thinking out loud...

I am not sure is going to get final cut on this project but I am pretty sure that it is not Marshall. While he is also serving as a producer on the project he is not powerful enough nor prestigious enough in the business to get final cut. That only goes to somebody like the Coen Brothers.
My guess is that it would come down to Marc Platt or Harvey Weinstein. It is a tricky one. Marc is lead producer on the project and Harvey is only acting as a distributing producer through the Weinstein Company. But Harvey is notorious for getting what he wants. My guess is the Nine we will see will be somewhere in the middle of the two.

As much as I want "Simple" and "Only with you" to be in the final cut (two of my favorite songs in the show, actually) if it ends up not making the cut, theyres a good chance they'll be extras on the dvd once its released right?
holy lord, i cant wait to see this!
Straight men can't enjoy musicals?
I have to say I have rarely if ever seen anything that ends up in the deleted scene extras of a dvd that I think was a mistake to cut from the actual film. The people I know that have seen NINE (a couple of whom are die hard fans of the musical) thought the cuts in the version they saw (I'm assuming Weinstein's cut) were justified. One specifically said that not including SIMPLE is absolutely the correct choice given how the film is put together.
So - if thats the version we get in December - I think I will probably be just fine with it.
It sounds great. I hope we have another hit to add to Chicago and Hairspray. I remember seeing the original at the 46th Street on one of the coldest nights of the year. It sure as hell wasn't cold in the theater after that curtain went up....
