GOD OF CARNAGE
GOD OF CARNAGE#1

According to an article today on Broadway World - Westend, GOD OF CARNAGE will be transferring to Broadway 'next year'
Maybe everyone knew this but me (I did do a search), but I'm SO excited -- I was hoping it would
Has anyone on here seen it in London, and can give us any personal impressions of the play?

I saw the London production on Saturday night and it is just terrific! One of best dramas on the West End stage at the moment. All the leads are stunning, its a shame the show is closing at the end of the original casts contracts. I work in production and casting in London and indeed it is very close to being confirmed for a Broadway opening- no dates or theatre yet but i love the hoped for casting for NY!!! - Emma Thompson would be amazing in this piece- I'm only hopeing i can see it again here in the next 5 weeks!

Thanks so much for replying, WickedBoy
Could you please elaborate on the 'hoped for' casting for New York? I didn't see that in the article I read. Who are we hoping for? I know that I'M hoping Ralph Fiennes will transfer with the production. I think he is just an incredible actor, probably my favorite on stage or screen
I wish I was in London right NOW :~)

Ok, sadly its closing in London on a mega box office and critical high mainly because the whole compnay cant continue and as with 'Equus' it leaves the West End wanting more.
Ralph Fiennes (!!!!!!!!!) has prior filming commitments.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Emma Thompson are inthe front line to open the play on broadway. I knw Ms Thompson is on bended knee to have the part - she's seen the West End production 4 times!

Thanks again for the additional info
I'm disappointed about Ralph Fiennes (very), but excited about the possibility of Emma Thompson. Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be interesting too
Great news - thanks for fueling the anticipation!

I don't want it to seem that all I care about is WHO is in it -- it's the play itself I am most excited about
It's always nice to see your favourite actors in a wonderful role, tho
And thank you again for taking the time to share your knowledge and insights, it's very kind of you

Your very welcome!
Its very different from her writing for 'Art'. Did you catch that when it played NY or the US on tour?

No, unfortunately I didn't
It's only in the last year or 2 that my finances allow me to come to NYC to see what I want (within reason of course, as in -- twice a month max)
I hope to never again miss something I REALLY want to see, and have to eat my heart out over it after

Sorry to be the lone dissenter here - I saw it two weeks ago, and while the cast is indeed superlative they are the only reason to see it. The script is rather lightweight - it brings up some very deep, emotional issues and then skirts around them for an hour and a half. It is all very reminiscent of WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF, without that work's depth or insight.
But it is only 90 minutes. And as I said, the performances were all stunning, especially Janet McTeer.
