The Venetian Room has a long and stellar history. For decades, the finest entertainers performed there. I'm sure Tony Bennett sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" hundreds of times in the room. The Fairmont closed it in the early 90's (?) and returned it to what it always was, a large banquet room off the main lobby. About ten years ago, the Bay Area Cabaret folks revived performances there. I saw Chita Rivera there, in one of their first shows and was disappointed. (Not by Chita, but it was a far sight from the intimate experience in the Rrazz Room [now Feinstein's] a year or so earlier) There were far too many hotel stacking chairs crowded into the room for comfort, and it had all the charm of a large, rectangular, hotel ballroom.

I would assume and hope that they've improved the seating and the experience has improved since that early show (I recall not being thrilled with the sound either). On the plus side, the Fairmont is a beautiful hotel and the performers are great.

Thank you so much.  I had bitten the bullet and got tickets.  I am having a little bit of buyers remorse.  The pictures I can see of the venue are awful.  It looks like a old banquet hall.  And the seats are general admission.  Which in my experience no matter how early I get there.. it usually means a bunch of seats with "reserved" signs on them.   .Oh well...

The Venetian Room is a beautiful venue.  Saw Elaine Paige perform there a number of years ago, in addition to Linda Eder several times.
