I am not over-reacting, I just stated that I think he is not funny anymore.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

While the stereotype probably doesn't hold as true anymore, I don't understand why it's such a big deal if people still associate the Tonys with gay people.

It's an easy laugh and shows a lack of originality, but I don't find it offensive. I think it's consistant of Letterman's humor. He doesn't mean to be offensive and I think he tends toward the easy laugh. He's just Letterman -- I think he's funny.

So the gays only get 1 night a year on CBS? Seem a little unfair to 10% of the population.

I find it hard to believe that someone like Letterman who is in the entertainment industry would not be aware that every aspect of society AND the industry has a large gay population. The theater community may be more willing to reveal that aspect of its character but that does not mean TV, music, movies or financial services industries do not include gay and lesbian people.

It was a lame joke, but I am sure Letterman knows the real score.

Yeah, not everything Letterman says is absolutely funny. I too would have thought that of the Grammy's. I guess you better get out your gay-ray because so far, watching it hasn't made me gay. Neither did it make me want to be but ah..sometimes I think life would be a little bit easier at times...sometimes, I admit I am jealous, especially over someone who dresses to the "T".

I would only be bummed if it scares off the straights. Some can be so afraid of themselves, anything remotely associated with being gay scares the hell out of 'em. I think it is funny, until they come to San Francisco with bats.

So back to it being a lame joke. Unless Letterman follows it with, "I'm so jealous, they are so talented." If he didn't, than shame on him. I am sure he has seen many Broadway Shows that make him speechless, (big task for Letterman), with their greatness.

He almost sounds jealous, doesn't he? That is what comments like that make me think.
