"The Broadway staging of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean will star Tony Award nominee Delroy Lindo, 2004 Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad, Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson and LisaGay Hamilton, the producers announced.

Directed by Marion McClinton, Gem of the Ocean will begin previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre, home to many past Wilson plays, Oct. 22. Opening night is Nov. 11.

The cast of Gem of the Ocean also includes Anthony Chisholm, John Earl Jelks and Raynor Scheine."

All I can say is "WOW" -- what an amazing cast! I've seen all of these people and they are some of the finest stage actors we have working today -- Rashad (Raisin, Helen, The Story, Everybody's Ruby), Lindo (Joe Turner's Come and Gone), Santiago-Hudson (Seven Guitars), Hamilton (The Piano Lesson, Measure for Measure in the Park), Chisholm (Two Trains Running, Jitney), Scheine (Joe Turner)...... This is truly a MUST-SEE.

This does sound great. In fact the new season's plays - I'm thinking also of Reckless and Democracy - sound a lot more interesting than the musicals, at this point. Unless Light from the Piazza is definitely coming.

Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!

Light in the Piazza is definitely scheduled for LCT in the Spring. But, you're right that this is shaping up into a great season for plays (off and on Broadway) -- Night Mother, Pillowman, Peter and Jerry, The Paula Vogel season at the Signature, Edward Hall's Rose Rage, Churchill's A Number, Dirty Tricks with Judith Ivey, Four By Tenn, Virginia Woolf, Streetcar with Natasha Richardson, Glengarry, American Buffalo and so many others

I must say it's very nice to have such a fantastic collection of revivals coming. I'm especially looking forward to Natasha in Streetcar and Jessica Lange in Glass Menagerie.
