One of my favourite actresses of all time is Geraldine Page. I know she did a lot of theatre work in New York. I was just wondering if anyone had any stories to share of seeing her perform or meeting her at the stage door.
I saw her in Agnes of God, "locking horns" with Elizabeth Ashley, and she was riveting and brilliant.
... and infinitely better than Ann Bancroft in the film adaptation.
I didn't "stage door," though.

Geraldine Page is also one of my favorite actresses and during the run of Agnes of God, I sent her a fan letter to the theatre, not asking for anything, just thanking her all the memorable characters she brought to film. It must have been over the holidays because she sent me a beautiful Christmas postcard thanking me for my kind words. Then, the next spring a friend and I vacationed in NYC for a week, saw Agnes three nights in a row. Got to talk to her at the stage door, she was so nice and so sweet, posed for photos, signed my program. I mentioned that she sent me a Christmas postcard and she said, "You're from Ohio!" Nobody else was pestering her, I don't think they recognized her. Many were waiting for Diahann Carroll (she had taken over for Elizabeth Ashley). Miss Page was dressed down, actually looked like a bag lady. She spoke with us for 5 or 10 minutes then walked away through the crowd down the street toward 8th Ave. I was sad when she died.

Geraldine Page was and still remins my favorite actress ever. She was so brilliant. How I wish I could have seen her on the stage in Summer and Smoke at the Circle in the Square. We are so forunate that she repeated that role on the screen.
I saw her perform in several plays, and spoke to her at the stage door after P.S. I Love You, Angela, and Absurd Person Singular. She couldn't have been sweeter or nicer.
And I remember a packed house at the Neil Simon for her memorial tribute. Many wonderful stories told. One anecdote that stood out to me related how one hot summer day in a taxi cab, she mentioned to a fellow performer how lucky they were because they would be performing in a play.
How I miss Geraldine Page!
