Get a THRILL at the York

Posted: 6/24/05 at 4:42pmEveryone go see the amazing musical "Thrill Me" at the York Theatre. This wonderful and compelling production is still running through July 10. However, if we can boost ticket sales we can keep it a lot longer. If you've already seen it go again! Starting June 27th the Composer, Stephen Dolginoff, will be playing Nathan Leopold. This should be spectacular. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about this show.

No one has any thoughts on this show?
Has anyone seen it?

Yes. There have been many threads about this show, reviews and all.
In any case, I'd LOVE to see what Dolginoff brings to the role of Leopold, which I felt lacked something with the original actor.

not a fan of the show or dolginoff and have NO desire to see a forty year old play a college student...that's what legally blonde is for.
the show itself is so plot driven that no one really gives a hoot about the characters. David Hasselhoff could convincingly play one of these roles without anyone really noticing...you just aren't watching the performers...and hopefully the repetitive melody (I say melody, because there is essentially one that is played over and over again) will hopefully put you to sleep so you don't have to listen to the corny rhymes.
Sorry for the harsh review...I believe in supporting off-bway and new musicals...but that doesn't mean we support it JUST BECAUSE it's off b-way and new.
there is far better out there.

Posted: 6/25/05 at 8:29amEquity has been giving away pairs of tickets every time I've been there in the past couple weeks - they really must be trying to keep this alive.

Posted: 6/25/05 at 11:11amI've seen it twice and am going again on Wednesday. I have paid each time. I think it's a terrific show. I think the score is quite good, the melodies have lingered in my brain far longer than anything from either 'Spamalot', or DRS. Sorry you didn't like it Camthom, but different people like different things. That's why Baskin-Robbins makes 31 flavors.

I went and saw the first preview of THRILL ME at the York and while it was not my favorite show (The lyrics were driving me a little insane and I wanted to hear more than just a piano), but I thought the physical production was really good. A nice minimal set with amazing lights and great direction from Mr. Rupert. But after the show, the creative team was in the lobby leading to the backstage area and Stephen Dolginoff threw one of the biggest fits I have ever seen a composer throw in all my years of theatre (and those have been a lot of years, believe me). He was yelling and cussing and telling them how they ruined his show. His behavior made me sick to my stomach. So, while in the theatre he appeared to be a humble gracious author, outside he was completely out of control. I've always learned that you can tell how a person really is by how they treat others and so that night, while I might have not 100% enjoyed his show, but I completely lost respect for him has a writer and I don't think I would ever pay any amount of money to see any of this productions. As for the York, I firmly believe that casting him a pure publicity stunt, and I really did expect better from Jim Morgan and company. They really do a lot of good work there. Just giving my two cents.

Posted: 6/25/05 at 8:18pmI saw Thrill Me a few weeks ago. There was something interesting about the score, although not in a good way: Every song in the score (except one, I forgot the title) has the same chord structure. They're all in the minor, with virtually indentical progressions. This drove me insane after a few minutes. This composer needs to learn a little bit about variety.
